Sjeng wrote:I prefer the "this enemy" text, as it refers only to the monster on the card. When typing "Guards" it could refer to other guards as well should they exist. I couldn't do that with the villagers, as they aren't enemies or monsters.
(My elven archers have no ability at all...) I've been using asterisks for special attacks or defenses (or even moves) consequently, so I'm gonna keep it that way.

Quest 5, Requiem for a Ball, poses problems with the current text. The special rules before the Quest allow either Guards or Wraith/Specters to join a Hero. The Monster Cards are needed in this Quest to reference their stats, but they function as Companions instead of enemies. In all other Quests, both Guards and Wraith/Specters function as enemies.

Do you really think that's a problem? Don't the quest notes state that these monsters are now allies or something? I think everyone understands how it works.
I just like to keep them similar to other monster cards that already exist.

I see no problem there. The special rules overrule anything else ultimately (monster card text) like it's HeroQuest's custom.

True, people can figure it out easy enough.

I should probably explain myself, as I'm so sensitive to the NA styling that pervades Champion(s) of the Empire. I've spent many hours helping to create a cohesive whole that resembles the previously-published expansions, so I guess I'm guilty of sentimental possessiveness.

My concern reflects the integrity of the unifying style within the work that was created to have an NA backbone mixed with a bit of EU wording. The goal was to be inclusive to the whole of the HQ audience while relying on familiar HQ language for mechanics, as long as it didn't step on the spirit of ghan's original work. Between knightkrawler's translation and my contributions, I think we fairly achieved making Champion of the Empire accessible to the English-speaking community while remaining true to ghan's intent.

Your changes make the Champion of the Empire Monster Cards good fits with the card sets in your files. They easily fit in Champion of the Empire, as well, so they're worth keeping.

When The Road Warrior pointed out preference for NA wording, I double-checked the cards and recognized the Elven Archer Monster Card provided a ready-to-match, NA published style already present in Champion of the Empire. If you'd be willing to make a variant set with NA wording, that would be good, too.

The Road Warrior wrote:
  • Quest 10 note B potion of Will - is this the potion of resolve mentioned on page 2
potion of velocity - should this be potion of speed? I don't know what this is called in the NA version or if it even exists.
  • Quest 11 note a - no squares are marked with an X on the map, they have been replaced by Hero icons. If the Hero icons stay I think a note should be added to make clear where the Heroes begin this quest.
  • Quest 11 note e - potion of velocity again.
  • Quest 12 note a - potion of will again.
  • Quest 12 note c - potion of velocity.

I asked ghan about the potion of velocity. His reply:
la potion de vitesse permet de lancé un dé supplémentaire pour bouger
Google Translate:
the speed potion allows launched an additional die to move
So I worked up this:

       Potion of Velocity

    Drinking this silvery mixture grants
you exceptional speed. On the turn
you drink it, you may roll an
additional red die when you move.
This card may only be used once.
Do not return this card to the deck.

Hi,

I'd been making a stab at "play testing" this pack. I wasn't able to really do it a meaningful way, however, after noting the recommendations above, I didn't see any typos, grammar or significant issues. Was there a way to make this pack in a higher dpi format for printing?

It's still WIP. When it's finished, drathe is gonna treat us with a finished printable version.
Glad that more and more people are interested in this.

I still need some brief descriptions of each new tile and component to place at the beginning of the book before the new rules section. Similar to the introduction of tiles and components in other American expansions.
I also still need to create the Armoury/Alchemist's shop for the inside cover.

Since I was the one who suggested a components section, I have begun a mockup to be placed above Playing Champions of the Empire. Of course, layout and art is only for demonstration and should be redone. I plan to simplify the table format, but wanted to post what I had started.

All components should be carefully cut from the printed
cardstock. New game components are described below and at
    right.

YOUR CONTENT-1 YOUR CONTENT-2Large Portal
Some Quests feature this
prominent doorway. The
large portal cannot be
blocked by a lone figure
that occupies 1 square.
Image
YOUR CONTENT-1 YOUR CONTENT-2 Pillar
Pillars are new furniture.
Blocked square tiles can be
substituted, if desired.
Image
New Components
Large Portal Assembly
Take 4 plastic door stands
from the Game System.
The 2 new doors in this
Quest Pack should be cut
away where the bottom
tabs meet, so that each
door can be folded and
fitted into 2 door bases as
shown at right. These
doors are described above
right.
Image YOUR CONTENT-7 YOUR CONTENT-8
Pillars Assembly
Cut each pillar so that a
vertical white tab extends
on 1 edge. The pillars
should be scored vertically
4 times, then folded. Glue
the tab to the inside of the
opposite edge.
