I'm digging this quest! One question: if the heroes try to open the chests first, will they have a clue that they need to kill all the skellies first?

As I read it, no. And they don't after trying, too. It's trial and error all the way. If they try again after having killed all skeletons they will succeed, but won't be told the reason for success, either. But there's a hint of killing all skeletons (or undead) being the quest objective hidden in the quest introduction for an attentive listener.

Please can I ask how the pit trap outside location F is dealt with? I've not played in years but I assume the heroes cannot search for this until they've fallen in it?

Basically.

Evil I like the way the similar area on the other side of the board doesn't have this trap. If the heroes encounter the trap and fall in, I can see them squabbling about who's going to step first into the 2nd area.

Also, Secret Skeleton was a name chosen for its awesome alliteration. I confirm knightkrawler's theory about the chests, also.

There are at least three "Secret" skeleton references in the Quest--you've already found the least obvious one (the conceptual solution one). There are two more that are way more obvious, and one literal.
