Is there any interest in quests on other maps?

I tried that as one of the options I explored. I can get it to display in the HeroScribe window by adding it to the objects.xml and sizing the image correctly - which took some fiddling. Also required were files in the vector folders, which were essentially dummy files.

However, I could not export to PDF or eps, it puts any icons out but not the map (I did not try PNG, though maybe because its raster it could work). Ill try that here in a sec.

What do windows users use to gzip files by the way? I used an old command line utility for ths but figure there should be a GUI version out there somewhere.

Edit: well screw me.....it does export PNG just fine. Ill have to play with the quality more.

As you can see, I don't have it aligned properly...but that should be doable with more fiddling around. I'd think a standard size per square and border white could be come up with that was pretty universal.

I had a thought that would help with the production of these maps. If your base map images are uniformly gridded, you might be able to add them to the Objects.XML file and turn it into an additional map option. Then the icons would line up properly and be high-quality and such.

(Only potential problem: Does this method require the base image to be a vector? If so, that would be problematic. Research ensues!)

The map files in HeroScribe are eps files with commands embedded telling the program how to draw the map each time. It uses commands such as 4 Unit 2 Unit 3 Unit 5 Unit rectstroke to tell the program to start at the bottom left corner, go 4 squares in and 2 squares up, then draw a rectangle that is 3 squares wide by 5 squares high. There are other commands for drawing circles, lines, etc. and for filling in the shapes.

clmckay, I am having issues getting that map you sent converted to a raster image for HS. That is literally the last thing I need to do for it to work. I guess the map you are looking at when you lay the icons out in HS is a png image, but the install instructions on the HS site for the software you need aren't working for me. It's telling me to use older versions which may be why. I haven't given up yet. I actually have an idea for a work-around that I will try next. Hopefully I will be able to get you the ability to use these maps in HS.

That is likely because eps and PDF are vector files and you don't have a vector based image for it to use to create these files. The fact that you got it to recognize the image in HS gives me hope for my work-around though.
