Adding a Mimic to HeroQuest

My iPad doesn't support Photoshop, but I have an idea for a Mimic. As any RPG geek knows, a Mimic takes the form of a treasure chest and attacks unwary Heroes who fail to discover in time that certain chests could be Mimics in disguise.

Mimics in HeroQuest would go like this: they are treated as Trapped Chests. If a Hero searches for Treasure before the trap is disarmed, the Chest would come to life and immediately take a bite out of the Hero and that Hero loses 1 Body Point.. To check for more damage, the Hero rolls 2 combat dice. If a Skull is rolled, the Hero loses 1 extra Body Point.

Afterwards, Mimics will move like any other monster as follows:

MOVEMENT: 4
ATTACK: 2
DEFEND: 5
BODY: 3
MIND: 1

If a Hero manages to defeat a Mimic, he takes the top Treasure Card (from the Game System). If it's a Hazard or Wandering Monster card, it is discarded until a treasure is drawn.

I like it, my only real issue is the treasure.
Just assign it a treasure then you don't have to mess with the treasure deck.

It should have a mind stat. It isn't completely mindless as it is smart enough to mimic things....but this isn't a game breaker.

That's up to the GM (Zargon/Morcar) to decide what treasure it gets. That's the beauty of Mimics. Maybe it can hold an Artifact in a future Quest. Still, I like to play it by ear and choose a random treasure from the Treasure Deck.

I decided to give it 1 Mind Point as you suggested. Still animalistic, but not completely mindless.

As I have 7 treasure chests, so decided to take my scalpel to one and make it open like a mouth. Did this ages ago

I used it the other day in a quest I made up for my daughter. My son thought it was hilarious as she had to roll a Combat die to see if the Mimic bit her hand as she tried to open it.

Then she had to fight it.

She was not impressed, but I could hear my son chuckling in his room.

Just thought of a psionic mimic that tricks you into thinking it is a bed or comfy chair. If you get in the beast lulls you to sleep then leaches your Mind points.
