I had previously thought a bard might fit better between the dwarf and the elf, but now I'm leaning more toward a "loremaster" with 5 mind points who is more between the elf and the wizard.

Starting with 5 body/5 mind, a shield and dagger for 1 attack die, and 3 defend dice, and 2 spell groups will make for a very diverse and interesting character to play :D

Nice! But be carefull on what type of weapons/armory he can use. You'll make custom cards for bard too?

He'd have a few skill cards, but as far as spells I was thinking of borrowing the hero spell cards from Wizards of Morcar.

What weapon limitations did you have in mind?

It depends the figure you have. If it holds an instrument check the previous post i wrote about keeping a hand free for the instrument.
If not, give him wizard armory restrictions with only 1 exception to the rest armory. For example now he is holding a shield, maybe later prefers a sword. In that case he has to sell the shield (or leave it behind at village) cause can't enter a quest with 2 non-wizard weapons/armors.
Another clever idea i read before is a bard with wizard armory restrictions but full access on all artifacts.

Also, a spellsinger. Elven pantsy, you know. That would be a variant leaning towards replacing the Wizard. He could use the entire 8 spells set from the EQP and 1 or 2 permanent skills giving him an edge somewhere.

I like these ideas. I playtested the bard with 6 spells, and weapon/armor restrictions, and it was really fun! The Evil Wizard requested I sing my spells :)

I may end up giving him 9 spells total, since he will be a weak fighter overall. The ability to be adept at any artifact is a good idea! Bards being in tune with magical objects and whatnot.

Bard the Guardsman, aka King Bard.

I never played Bard's Tale (a little tyke in love with Return of the Jedi and Dinosaurs in '85, didn't even have a computer, just the apple IIs at school), but just hearing its name and the screenshots are enough to whisk me back to those days...

Hi there guys. I am part of a HeroQuest Discord Channel, where somebody named Brother Crow shared his work on the Bard.
The channel is here : https://discord.gg/rv9u47
You can get the Spell Cards from Brother Crow if you scroll all the way back to April 29th 2020

His work is amazing. Basically, here are the types of songs from the Bard's list. (Check Brother Crow's work for the song names)

1 - A song to make all heroes re-roll their lowest movement die.

2 - A song that keeps enemies away from the Bard during 1 turn. Also applies to anybody standing adjacent to the Bard - Monsters cannot come attack them.

3 - A song that will double the treasure you find // the other option is to select between 2 treasure cards - keep the best of the 2.

4 - A song that heals everybody by 2 Body Points.

5 - A song that increases the attack of all heroes by 1 combat die.

6 - A song that will refresh one spell to a specific targeted hero. (May it be the Wizard or the Paladin, or the Druid...as you wish)

7 - A song that pushes back the enemies by 2 squares - and they also have to perform a Mind check to skip their turn. They need 4-5-6 to remain in combat, otherwise, they skip their turn.

Bard's BP would be 5
Bard's MP would be 5.
Attack Dice unarmed is 1.
Defense Dice unprotected is 2.
Starting weapon : Short Bow (adds 1 combat die) // or Short Sword (adds 1 combat die)

Here is a Bard Hero I created a while back.

The idea was to add only one additional hero that filled the gap between the Elf and Wizard with 5 body, 5 mind. I wanted to introduce more use of the underutilised mind points and I've managed to create a balanced character with a mind point mechanic that doesn't require any rule changes. I find her perfect because there is always the tension between spending mind points early and weakening your other spells. Can't imagine the Orc Bard would be anywhere near this good. They should have got fans from this site to redesign the game. Enjoy!
