Nope. If you roll one dice and get a skull then you can roll a second and if both skulls you roll a third. If you attack with two dice you still need two skulls to roll a third. You don't loose anything.

That new wording is much better. I don't think there would be any
misunderstanding its purpose now.

It should be throwable. As it is it's average is the same as rolling two combat dice so it doesn't improve the Wizard, it just makes him more interesting.

It's the difference between making a character better and actually improving them. It's caught me out a few times making my stuff. For example my Sorcerer can use spell components to cast when he'sd a veteran. This makes the character much better but how much it actually improves him depends entirely on how much the components cost, so it's a nice flexable skill that can be ballanced freely.

I'm going to rename this to Hell Knife if I start ptting in other peoples artifacts because knives are throwable and daggers aren't in my rules. I think it sounds cooler as well if you want to change it. Nothing wrong with Hell Dagger though, just my preference.

I think it's pretty much perfect now.

It can be augmented by potions and spells, but ALL dice need to be skulls to get the combo rolling. Seems like a fair way to do it.
No need for it to be throwable. That's the niche of the knives/spears/axes. No need to intrude on their territory. Besides, who'd ever want to throw and loose an artifact like this?

Also I find it funny how "just another" artifact suddenly reaches page 6 with discussion still going strong!

This small blade gives you the
attack strength of 1 combat die.
You may continue to roll an
additional attack for every Skull rolled.

All Skulls rolled during your attack
count as 1 Body Point of damage
that the target defends against as
normal.
May not be thrown.

This is dangerous as you might roll multiple dice after using a potion of strength. You roll 1+2 dice, roll 3 skulls, and instead of getting to roll 1 more die, you may roll 3 more dice, and so on etc.
I prefer a rule that would allow you to roll one extra die if your initial roll has at least 1 skull, regardless of how many dice you rolled. So with or without a potion, you only get to roll 1 extra die after the first roll (if you roll a skull). If that 1 extra die is also a skull, you roll on as usual.

Does that make sense?

In the euro rules an ordinary staff is actually statistically better than this though. In the US rules a wizards staff is. Normal daggers are in the US rules and they're throwable.

Goblin-King wrote:Besides, who'd ever want to throw and loose an artifact like this?
It would have to be recoverable.

I know, I think I'm going to start a thread for every character, rule, weapon and spell I've come up with. Just kidding. :)

That's the old rule. The new one is "If your attack roll consists of all skulls, roll an additional combat dice."

Here's what I'm going to do for my rules I think. Hell Knife - Same but can be thrown. Hell Hammer - Same but with two dice and can be thrown (works better with my rules because it doesn't use ammo and can be used by the Paladin). Either they can be recovered by moving to or over the square or they magically return to your hand. And a Magicians Staff that attacks with two and gives -1 defence dice (could also be combined with Sortiris, Revelation Staff).

Having them be throwable and reusable is moving into OP territory...
