Nope. If you roll one dice and get a skull then you can roll a second and if both skulls you roll a third. If you attack with two dice you still need two skulls to roll a third. You don't loose anything.knightkrawler wrote:A nice twist: if you choose to use it immediately drinking after taking a potion that lets you attack with more than one AD, you probably get more skulls with the first roll, but more likely won't be given a re-roll-
So, vanilla hell dagger spreads the probabilities from 0 to instakill, while modified hell dagger makes it more probable to actually hit at all, but less probable to kill.

This small blade gives you the
attack strength of 1 combat die.
You may continue to roll an
additional attack for every Skull rolled.
All Skulls rolled during your attack
count as 1 Body Point of damage
that the target defends against as
normal.
May not be thrown.

In the euro rules an ordinary staff is actually statistically better than this though. In the US rules a wizards staff is. Normal daggers are in the US rules and they're throwable.Goblin-King wrote:I think it's pretty much perfect now.
It can be augmented by potions and spells, but ALL dice need to be skulls to get the combo rolling. Seems like a fair way to do it.
No need for it to be throwable. That's the niche of the knives/spears/axes. No need to intrude on their territory.
It would have to be recoverable.Goblin-King wrote:Besides, who'd ever want to throw and loose an artifact like this?
I know, I think I'm going to start a thread for every character, rule, weapon and spell I've come up with. Just kidding.Goblin-King wrote:Also I find it funny how "just another" artifact suddenly reaches page 6 with discussion still going strong!
That's the old rule. The new one is "If your attack roll consists of all skulls, roll an additional combat dice."Sjeng wrote:JasonMCM wrote:Hell Dagger

This is dangerous as you might roll multiple dice after using a potion of strength. You roll 1+2 dice, roll 3 skulls, and instead of getting to roll 1 more die, you may roll 3 more dice, and so on etc.
I prefer a rule that would allow you to roll one extra die if your initial roll has at least 1 skull, regardless of how many dice you rolled. So with or without a potion, you only get to roll 1 extra die after the first roll (if you roll a skull). If that 1 extra die is also a skull, you roll on as usual.
Does that make sense?

Then you must really hate the crossbow. Reusable three combat dice!Goblin-King wrote:Having them be throwable and reusable is moving into OP territory...
