Maybe I'm too much of a purist, but I like the front samples you've posted. I think the spell art looks good and matches the EU style spells. I'm not a fan of the back though. For me, yes, I'd like it all to match, but I prefer that it match the original style instead. There's a large amount of custom content that matches the existing style backs, updating the original spells to your new style would fix the base game but would leave a lot of custom content out.

Just my 2 cents.

Always happy to hear 2c drop. Thanks very much for the compliments mate, much appreciated. To match the original style would require a commitment to time and energy that is already being spent elsewhere - yes there is a lot of custom content but to ascertain whether it is free, contact numerous artists and then sort out some sort of agreement between all of them upon notice that my project is commercial is a familiar headache I'm not willing to attempt right now. Moreover using a style too reminiscent of the original Heroquest Art risks breaching copyrights.
I can offer to revisit this project if there is significant incentive to do so but for now I will be staying with the artwork supplied.

[Given the amount of new tiles I have already produced and the ability to create a new board, cards, rules, dice, tiles - maybe I should just create an entirely new game at some point.]

Okay, the Spellpack is now complete and available to order here: http://gametilewarehouse.wix.com/rpgtilesupply#!card-packs/cf8n

However, I've also made the Back Template + Artwork for the Ember, Ice, Tectonic & Wind Magic types available as free downloadable images from http://gametilewarehouse.wix.com/rpgtilesupply#!heroquest-fun--freebies/c111s for anyone wishing to make their own private sets using my cover artwork but their own reverse art and spells.

As long as it is not used commercially please feel free to make use of the resources supplied in your private collection. :)

Cheers,
SA

Hiya Sorcerer,

I have not had the extra resources to pick these up just yet (but soon)... I always liked the idea of your dungeon furniture and the like but have not felt drawn to pick any of it up... Though I do believe it is a solid concept.

These spell cards, on the other hand, I think are very interesting and probably represent more of what I personally would be looking for (and need frankly). In fact, if these sell well enough to justify it, I would think that producing some other alternate card types might be useful as well? (Equipment, Treasure, Monsters), I don't know... At some point people just print their own stuff, but I think your prices are fairly reasonable compared to having cards printed for individual use, so maybe there would be a market?

The other thing, maybe off topic a bit, that I'd love to see is some card sets for modern and or post-apocalyptic/ sci-fi settings... Though I have no idea if your current venture has been profitable enough yet to branch out that much. But just wanted to throw that out there.

Regardless, your art is great and I think your ideas are solid... Keep up the good work.

G'day mate. I've sold a few decks of the Heroquest Spells so far, but selling well would be using language colourfully. I do this largely for the love of RPG and to cover my costs, make a little on top to fund new projects. My present venture creating tiles for D&D (though equally compatible with HQ) has been far more successful than my HQ works have - which is something for me to think about - though I fully intend to work on Project Chthonic this year to provide a new HQ board with larger squares and lay-over tiles etc. Possibly another kickstarter project, I'm not sure yet. Thank you for your compliments regarding my work - I can only get better with time and practice, and will soon at least be able to upgrade my store with a proper checkout system and buy a new computer.
Time is my largest enemy - working 50 hours+ a week driving and delivering plasterboard and steel leaves VERY little time for me to do this stuff - having been doing that the last 2-3 months has deeply cut into my project time and prevented a load of other tiles from being finished as planned. Luckily my kickstarter is doing very well, and this change of fortune may allow me consider giving that job the boot and concentrating on tile/card manufacture full time. I only have 6 days left before I have to return to work from my holidays so I will have a lot to think about - and design, in that short window. But I do love making stuff for HQ and D&D and hope to deliver more in the future.

Kind Regards,
SA

sorcerersapprentice wrote:I also have to ask: are there underwater, airless, lava sections in Heroquest? As in tiles to represent areas where the map is submerged underwater, or has a floor of molten lava, or perhaps an airless environment? I think these would be interesting developments to add to the game: wherein your adventurers could face a variety of difficult terrains.

A Quest can have any of these conditions if they can be creatively dand succinctly detailed in the Notes section. There are a few alternative environment tiles and boards found at the Gallery.
