Oh, my mistake, sorry - I have not seen those; where can I find them? I quoted from the printed version.

You may not have a spirit blade handy at the time. And like Ken said, it's all relative.

Absolutely right -- I even considered playing this quest before the Heroes have all the basic game artefacts. Still, in the long run they should lose either Spirit Blade or the Sword of Zalmir, I think.

Hm, interesting notion. You have got a point here.

Still I shall be looking forward to more and / or other ideas (and doing some thinking of myself, of course) before creating - and probably posting - an artefact card "The Sword of Zalmir".

I've been looking at the discussion of the quest on Old Scratch's Forum-

http://oldscratch.smackwell.com/cgi-bin ... 1209005565

I like that the quest isn't overpopulated with baddies. This probabaly does lend it to being one for aspiring champions.

Off topic-
I never considered this before but in Return of the Witch Lord; the Witch Lord captures the heroes. At this point he possesses the Spirit Blade and since he has 4 body points he couldn't die from the fire spells, making him effectively invincible. The reason for his downfall is that he doesn't destroy the Spirit Blade when he has the chance, either because he doesn't know what it is or because he's foolish. :geek:

Well, the "2 body points of damage" is written in the special rules for Death Reapers in Mortimer's quest, but where did you find the information about rolling only two combat dice? If this is the case, then you are right, the Sword of Zalmir would be rather mediocre.

Well, the wording in the Quest Notes is a bit ambiguous, does not actually state how many combat dice are rolled on this sword, so it could be classed as a "Spirit Blade" with extra powers against the Death Reaper.

Thanks for the link -- I have been, I admit, always too lazy to browse through other forum pages.

Yes, exactly! And it is really in line with the - rather dreadful - comic story. But I like to think that even bad stories (and films) can make good quests, as is the case here with "Sword of Zalmir".

Off topic - I have not read the English (British) rules for that quest. We played it by the German translation, and here the Dwarf and the Wizard were imprisoned in a cell outside the central room (there the Witch Lord is about to kill the other two Heroes). Dwarf & Wizard are freed by a spell of Mentor's and may take all their equipment (except for their gold - that was stolen) with them. Since the Wizard owned Spirit Blade, the question of the Witch Lord being in possession of the magical sword never arose. But you are absolutely right otherwise - it was just a coincidence that the Wizard had Spirit Blade. NEVER thought of that, and I was the Gamesmaster, too!
Or maybe the Witch Lord went to the same Evil University that all other super villains seem to attend: Batman's arch enemies, James Bond's opponents, Dr. Doofenshmirtz, Dr. Evil -- the only thing they seem to learn about psychology is: "ALWAYS underestimate your enemy! Tell them your plans, put them in a probably deadly trap, and LEAVE THE ROOM!"

Not any more, you can't. Large sections of this site have been down for a looooong time. Does anyone know what's up?

I don't know what's up with the site, but I do have the quest. Let me know if you want it.

I can't get it to work either, but I'm not sure that it was working on Pheonixs website before it got frozen either. Seems like he did a remodel and never finished it. I think drathe just mirrored the site as it was before it got frozen. Maybe mention this and post the link in the website support section and drathe can look into it.

Stratos, if you have that quest (and any others that got lost too) I'd love to have a copy, if you don't mind.

Before the site went down, I had downloaded all I could find. I'll post what I have from there into the online folder where the converted quests are. Just click on the link in my signature to see them. I'll start now, so you'll have to give them a bit of time to upload.

The quests are still online it seems, so it's only the links to the files that are missing - http://heroquestbyphoenix.yeoldeinn.com/quests/zalmir.pdf
