Where is referred to as an amulet?

Jafazo wrote:On to how I might word this...

"Anytime you discard a cast spell card you can try to store a copy of that same spell into the Ring of Sorcery. Only 1 spell can be stored this way, any successful attempt to store another spell will replace a previously stored spell with the new one. To store a spell roll 1 combat die, if you roll a black shield, a copy of the discarded spell card is successfully stored. A stored spell can be cast once as explained on the copied spell card."
"A stored spell can be cast once as explained on the copied spell card." I'd reword that bit.

Jafazo wrote:I'd probably leave it like this. Letting Heroes pass spells around is an invite for disaster, don't do it. If you insist on letting them pass spells around, I'd add this to the end, "A stored spell will remain within the Ring until it is cast or until the wielder of the Ring falls unconscious.
They can't pass the stored spell around. I did it like that because of custom heroes. I didn't want casters to get access to spells that they wouldn't normally have access to by passing the ring around.

Edit:
Gold Bearer wrote:I like the idea of it combining with the ring of wizardry though so the spell travels from one ring to the other.
I think it's called the spell ring, not ring of wizardry.

Slight rewording:-

I looked at the first picture of the Ring of Sorcery & it was referenced as an amulet. Top of the thread, but you changed it up so it reads Ring so no issue there. Just in case, a pic of it.

I did some constructive criticizing but don't think I complimented you on the artifact so I wanted to come back and do that. Great item, I mean it. It resembles a feature I included within my own advanced version of Hero Quest to improve the Wizard. Kudo's to you.

Cheers. :) This is definitely my favourite item idea that I've had, which is why I made a card for it the next day and my other items are still just rule ideas sitting in a word file.

I have got a very basic amulet of protection that I made for my p-b-p game that just gives immunity to fire and ice based attacks. It's a weak item because the EWP can just target someone else with fire and ice spells but handy for the wizard with his low BP. I'll dig it out tomorrow in case anyone wants it.

I'm just reading the latest iteration of the card, not the whole thread. Seems like an interesting item.

1. Yeah, change every instance of "amulet" to "ring" :D
2. ...roll a combat "die" (not "dice")
3. Why bother with the rule about unconciousness though? Is there something specific you want to do/prevent with this part of the rules?
4. I know space is tight - but it is kinda only implied how you actually use the stored spell. I assume you can cast the stored spell anytime you would cast a regular spell.
5. Can you roll to re-store when casting an already stored spell?

I think you must be reading the first version. The newest version is this:Image

The reason I included the rule about losing the spell if your BP or MP reaches 0 is because you lose the spell if you cast a spell that's not in the ring and roll a black shield, which suggests a level of concentration is needed to store the spell which can be broken when you cast. I know it's technically die but that just doesn't sound right to me. It doesn't make it in any way unclear.

I just noticed that is says if I roll a black shield not only do I not get to save the spell, but I lose any spell that is already in the ring...
So on average, every 6th time I cast a spell I lose a spell stored in the ring. Not working for me. Otherwise I like the item.

Also should be for Wizard only. my 2centavos

If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

The black shield roll is to make it less powerful and more interesting. It means your better off casting the spell in the ring if you can. You're actually better off doing that anyway because it can only store one spell at a time. But imagine there's really good spell in the ring like a healing spell but nobody needs healing yet. Now you have to think about whether you want to risk casting other spells but with only a one in six chance of losing the healing spell it isn't an easy choice.

I didn't restrict it's use to certain heroes because it's only useful for spell casters because of how it work and it's much more useful for a hero with lots of spells, so I didn't feel the need to specify who could use it.

Obviously you can change it however you like if you want to use it for your own games. If you do let me know if they like using it.

You are right... I read the one Jafazo linked to on this page - which turned out not to be the latest iteration... D'OH!

It's still "Roll a combat DIE" - not "dice" though.
