The problem with decks that big is that they can get "streaky" where the good/bad cards clump together. Indeed, I once had so large a deck (about 150 cards) and it became unwieldy as a result. Much prefair my 54 card deck.

That's why I play with 20 bad and 30 good cards. The rest of the good cards are in reserve for the next game.

My three treasure decks all have 24 cards by default, but they can be tweaked for quests because I will print out some more multiples and add questpack specific cards with specific icons that I can add and take away to my liking.

This discussion brings back to mind a problem I have with the Treasure deck. As cool as it is, it lacks a progression of gold coin treasure. Fifteen or 25 gold coins doesn't amount to much in later Quests when gear can cost in excess of 500 gold coins and Quest rewards can also exceed this amount.

My first thought had been to multiply the gold-coin card values after a certain amount of Quests were completed. Now I think when those cards are drawn it might be better to offer an option: keep the gold coins OR instead put the card in the box and draw from a Spell Scroll deck (15 gold coin card) or combined expansion Teasure deck (25 gold coin card.) The options would become available with their appropriate expansions.

Actually, the tougher Heroes should be better able to rinse teh treasure out of the deck and thus the deck should ballence itself really.

Yes, that's true. Tougher Heroes can last better against more types of Wandering Monsters and might get a couple of more Body Points to weather Hazards. That can mean more coins and gems (but no 100 gold coins using base NA cards.) On the other hand, Wandering Monsters get more numerous and tougher to compensate.

As a Hero player, I'm happy at any power level with a Heal Potion and okay with a gem, but I feel meh about gold coins (esp. 15) when so much more is offered by high-level Quests. (Disclaimer: I only played the first two expansions.) Of course, you've got loads of play experience on me. You mentioned a 54-card deck. Did you add any new gold-coin treasure?

Re: The Treasure Deck

Postby knightkrawler » September 6th, 2016, 2:12 pm

by the way, I differentiate between coin and jewels.
The entries for the two icons:

(“coin”) when a Hero finds ╄, they take the corresponding value of ╄ tokens from the hoard and thus keeps track of the sum he has found. The card is discarded face down behind the screen immediately.
A card that costs ╄ to purchase can be discarded after a quest in exchange for a third of its cost (rounded down).

(“jewelry”) when a hero finds ╅, they keep the card in their deck until after the quest. Then it is discarded in exchange for coin as detailed in the card text.

I can thus cross-reference by making heroes "discard any one Treasure card" or "discard X coin", for instance, because of a Goblin thief or whatever.
It also plays a role in case a hero dies.
The differences as of now are small, but the possibilities to mix things up even further are there.

Aaah, The Count's icons...

Using the
[font=HQModern
[/font]
changes so much! :D
(just add a closed bracket and it works)

I uses GimmeYerGold's treasure deck as basis.
I have Nothing,
10 (Trinket) (Well, another variant of nothing, really :) )
15,
25,
35(Gem),
45 (Goblet),
50 (Jewels),
55 (Statuette),
60 (Crown),
1d6 x 10 (miss turn) ,
2d6 x 10 (miss turn),
3d6 x 10 (miss turn),
135 (dazzling Gemstone),
200 (Treasure Hoard) :D

The Gem can be kept to buy a potion at half the price. Copied from Sotiris.

Ha, "my" system is so much a community system i can hardly say it's mine. But it feels mine! :D
