it's Pennywise from the awesome movie IT, based on Stephen King's book. If you have not seen it yet, drop everything and check it NOW!

Oh I've seen IT. That's what I was referring to. One of the earliest memories I have is that clown and the movie IT.

"IT" was one of my first horror movies!
"In 1960, seven outcast kids known as "The Loser Club" fight an evil demon who poses as a child-killing clown. 30 years later, they are called back to fight the same clown again." Mentor

JasonMCM wrote:Is it usable by anyone? The card don't say otherwise so I assume so, but then again what self respecting Barbarian would carry the Staff of Helpmerunaway around with him?

Yes, why not? It's up to DM. If he allows fighters to read spellscrolls then they can use the staff too. A self respecting Barbarian can refuse to keep it ;)
Goblin-King wrote:I like the concept of this a lot. But I can't help but feel it should either be "once per quest" or be turned into a spell scroll (or spell?) instead.

There's something demotivating about having a magic staff that looses it's power after using it once :(

I see. The spell scroll form is the best (and more logical) idea.
The image of the card affected me to give the spell in a staff than a scroll :)
Also, don't forget the original "Ancient Staff" from MotM:
"it works only 5 times, then it becomes useless!". <- For those who use it many many times!

While I must admit that the book is the least boring of King's novels - I actually enjoyed reading it! - the film is much weaker. The clown's acting and makeup is great, but the true near omnipotent nature of IT the devourer of universes never shines through and the big spider muppet in the final battle is just ridiculous.
Have a look ;)

I love this idea, I might have to nick it or add this affect tp my destruction spell if you don't mind. I think Wizard or Elf only staff that works once per quest would be better than loosing the affect. You could rule that if it's used to open a door to an empty room then it's solid rock and just creates an alcove, represented nicely by the secret door tile.

I like this artifact. It could be proved very useful in certain quests.

I was trailing around trying to find a useful artefact to add to my custom Dwarf quest. This will work nicely, although I have amended it slightly as follows:
"You may hit this staff to a wall, counting as an action. An open door is placed if there is a room or corridor on the other side. Once three doors have been so placed the staff loses its power and becomes a regular staff."

It seemed quite an interesting and useful concept, and you can sell it for 50gc when it's done with!
