Dice simulators VS actual dice. Your opinions?

Postby Naniyue » September 4th, 2024, 1:25 am

While I think the dice simulator I found for android is pretty neat, especially with the option for Heroquest dice, I still prefer actual dice. This isn't just because of physical sensation or anticipation, but because I doubt the simulator could take into effect other factors such as hand size and positioning, the surface rolled on, etc. Still, I think such a program is good for situations like being on a bus while playing an adventure game book. Who wants to drop a die on THAT dirty floor?

Prefer physical dice normally, but when we're playing remotely/virtually having virtual dice that each player can roll really saves time and increases interactivity.

Last game we played our virtual dice bot broken temporarily and it meant I was going back to rolling dice for every person (and myself as Zargon) which is fun at first but gets to be a bit much over 2 hours.

I’ve always loved how the weight and spin can change the outcome, and yeah, I wouldn’t want to drop a die in a dirty place either! But I do find it handy to use dice simulators when I’m on the go or when I can’t find my favorite dice. For example, I recently used flipsimu.com when I was traveling and didn’t have my dice with me. It worked great for some quick rolls, and I didn’t have to worry about losing them in my bag.
