What are you reading at the moment?

The guardians of the flame. I came across the title and wanted to know if anyone had read it and if it was worth looking into. I'm presently on book 12 of the Wheel of Time series.

I've been rereading the British fantasy Gormenghast Series:



The series takes place inside the walls of an ancient, massively sprawling Gothic castle populated by a hierarchy of weird and brooding characters.

I really enjoy the richly detailed descriptions, even though on the whole, not a lot happens right away story-wise. The series is regarded as the first "fantasy of manners" book, which is a sub-genre I didn't know existed until I shared this with you!

I recommend vol. 1 & 2. I pretend vol. 3 doesn't exist though

You won't find anything comparable unless it is a Howards story.
I have read probably 80% of his works. Not exactly a egalitarian but he came from a different time so I give him a pass.

Are the Conan books worth reading? What sort of length are they? I think I've only seen the first movie

Yes they are! It's 1200 pages (on my ebook reader) with 21 stories: So they are short, each one. Some of them are not so good, but most of them are quite good.
Don't expect too much "historical correctnes" or such things.

Have now moved on through Niven's Known Space from Crashlander to Neutron Start (now skipping the bits duplicated between the two).

I'm reading the fluff texts from the Warhammer army books. Some of those read as if they had been written by third-graders.
