Very realistic fire!

Thanks! I actually did quite a lot of research to figure out what fire really looks like.
I've seen these painted very well, but with the fire all wrong. It just looks... "off".

One has to paint according to the sculpt, which you did perfectly.

Exactly. Instinctively you want to do it that way because that's how you usually highlight minis.

The fact you didn't try to paint these huge eyes in a way that wouldn't fit the minis?
They look like there's heat in the eyeballs and behind the irisisisisisisisisis...

This - from the last picture it looks like you've stuck little yellow lightbulbs into crap kids toys.

I don't get the chibi and anime style models at all.....

My first attempt at painting. The camera doesn't do it justice, he looks much worse in real life.

Great, you've started painting!! Now take a breath, and a really fine brush, and try touching up some edges. Then, if you feel up to it, try highlights. That's simply using a slightly lighter shade of the base colour to touch up the elevated areas and edges. You can use the side of the brush for that. After that, apply a black wash over the chainmail and iron bits. Apply a brown wash over the leather bits. Then if you really feel adventurous, try an emblem on the shield and perhaps colour the lower parts of the helmet a darker metal (the 2 halves inside the elevated bands). Oh and perhaps a light wash over the fase (not the eyes) and hands for more shading.

Sounds like a lot, but it really isn't. You already did the most work
