How'd I end up in here? I must say that I do wish I spoke more than just American (I openly admit that it is no longer English and wish american would be recognized as an actual language) and Spanish. All I need is French for the great white northern neighbor and Portuguese for then non-spanish in south america and I'd have everything pretty much covered here in the 'new world'.

Since it seems most are a non-native American/English speaker did English give any of you a tough time with anything? I just have so much pity for people trying to learn and understand how homophones don't make them go nuts let alone words that are spelled the exact same yet have different meaning, I'm pointing out 'read' for this one.

No chance, dude. All English accents are mutually understandable.
There are other language pairs that need distinguishing more urgently because of (oftentimes) mutual incomprehensibility.

I agree that there are more pressing and urgent matters for other languages ahead of American. I take it you've never come across anyone from the deep south. I've heard a couple of them speak before and about described my level of comprehension as to what they were saying. But you are correct that there probably should have been some level of understanding between me and those hillbillies.

I think I forgot to add the Sarcasm: /Sarcasm tag on my last post. But the heart of it was an actual serious post. I figured there were many regional dialects but hadn't figured on just how many there could be. One of the issues of being isolated here in America I guess.

Finns that speak english are sometimes very hard to understand too. Example, this happens in a hotel:

Man comes to reception desk and says, "Tuu tii tu töötituu!"

Wich actually means, "Two teas to thirtytwo."

And this is actually true story, My parents were on a vacation with some other Finnish couples and that is what one of the men said

HAHA... I can't think of anything offhand right now but I don't think we get anything quite that bad around here. Not unless they are a fob (fresh of the boat) but even then not as funny as that.

Unfortunately yes only too many of them. They are rife here either owning or working in most of the servo's (fuel stations) and a lot of them speak so fast that I generally have to ask twice what they just said. Thankfully a lot of these places are now have the screens that show you how much you owe.
Worst one I had recently sounded like "Kasakud" ,as I was looking in my wallet.
When I asked again, same thing. Luckily the third time he pointed at the card swipe ......
And I thought "fluent drunkard" was hard to work out
