Actually, of all the 3D movies I've seen, Avatar was the ONLY one where I felt truly inside the movie. Probably because it was mainly computer-made, utilizing the 3D effects fully, in contrast to real movies, that I don't find very 3D at all.
I've given up on 3D movies. I'll only watch the next avatar movies in 3D if they ever come.

I'm with you on that. Giving up 3D, I mean. Utterly useless and a very good reason to increase ticket prices.
Whenever there's a choice between two and three dimensional I'll choose the former.

I really liked an IMAX documentary on the ocean that was done in 3D - but that's because they did it really well! The room looked like it was filled with Jellyfish everywhere - and having swam into a 'wall' of them once myself, it was pretty scary - zzt! zzt! zzzzzzttt!

But the action movies don't fill the room at all. They just pop out a little. There should be parts of the movie made to really shine in 3D - like debris or things blowing out towards the viewer. It's like 3D is just a label they can slap on to make more $$. There needs to be some real perspective work to make the 3D worth it. It works well for the Ocean documentary, because you're showing the immense size of the ocean/reef and numbers of fish, or drawing attention to a feature amongst the huge field - like a reef shark coming to find you.

Take a few hints from the real world, moviemakers.

I fully agree with your view on 3D el_flesh.
The only good 3D movie I've ever seen was Avatar. They actually used the medium in a good way.

Just saw it today, and I loved it!! We went to see the 3D version, simply because the 2D version was at an awkward time for us, with the baby and all, and it was only €1,- more expensive, and we already have 3D glasses, so it didn't matter.
It's actually not bad in 3D, some scenes had some nice depth, especially the landscapes and the mines. You wouldn't miss it if you saw the 2D movie though, but it's not bad really.

I love the movie, much lore added, and I particularly liked the goblins :D and Gollum was great again :) and the 3 trolls were well done as well. I even kinda liked Radagast, except for the birdpoo on his face, eew.

I hope they add Beorn in part 2. That would be awesome!

Just want to say that Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was great in 3D. Yes, other than that and Avatar I've never got anything from having 3D in movies.

Is that what "lemony goodness" means? I've seen the phrase used here, but I had no idea.

Left quite a bit to wait for the screens of two part Hobbit. The first part of the film very much, although there are questions about the appearance of some dwarves, especially to that at which the ax in his head)))) is particularly interesting to see how it will look Battle of 5 Armies in the film.
