I usually play HQ with my kids and my daughter would always say "oh no, not the chinkle" whenever she would enter a new room and hear the sound of Zargon sorting though the minis for the appropriate mosnter.

My son insists on calling the Dwarf "the midget" so we get "the midget searches for secret door" and so on. He also squeals with delight at the appearance of the Gargoyle becasue it's so badass. :gargoyle:

As Zargon, I usually find myself saying "are you sure you want to split up at this point?"

Since discovering the HQ television commercials on YouTube "I'll use my broadsword" and "Fire of Wrath" have become commonplace as well, usually in faux British accents. ;)
Fear the chinkle!

When I play with a friend of mine (with whom I played the game when we were 14/15/16) we have a LOT of inside jokes and sayings: (all in dutch, so I'm afraid only Sjeng will kinda 'understand' em:

-Kap die Fimir -> Chop that Fimir
-Wat niemand in deze wereld snapt, is hoe je een Fimir kapt (a rhyme)->What no one in this world understands, is how you chop a Fimir
-Ik zoek naar krawatten. (the dutch word for treasure is schatten. krawatten is german for a Tie. Since schatten resembles krawatten we use krawatten for schatten. So, instead of saying: I search for treasure....we say: I search for Ties. Get it?
-In one questbook there's the Doom guard (Doemwacht in Dutch). When a Chaos Warrior is placed we always sing the Doemwacht song. It's an old instrumental tune (don't know the real title) but it sounds nuts.
-In the video 'Losing my Religion' of the band R.E.M. there's a shot of a harness/chainmail thing. We always thought it resembles the image of Borins Armor. Yep: whenever the Borins Armor card is seen/used we sing 'Losing my Religion' folks!

Not exactly. There's this old instrumental theme (of which I don't know the title, but I bet it sounds familiar to most people). On the tune we just say the words: 'de doemwacht, de doemwacht, de doemwacht etc'

Now that I have a regular HeroQuest group, I have a few more sayings to add:

"I search for wandering monsters" (search for treasure)

"Oh no, not the table!" (the Dwarf is constantly annoyed by how much room it takes up)

"Go ahead and open the Orc closet" (upon opening the door to one of the small rooms)

"Heal me! I need healing!" (usually uttered mid-game by the Dwarf)

"I'm going to cast Genie...to open a door"

In addition, when ever we are in a restaurant and someone drops a plate or silverware, my son says, "It's the chinkle!" which is our name for the sound of Zargon sorting through the monsters.
Fear the chinkle!

My group calls these rooms "the bathroom".
Typical saying of my brother is: "let's check the bathroom first"

Blackthorn wrote:"I search for wandering monsters" (search for treasure)
Some members of my group just say "search for gold". Most of the time they are correct.

However, the most annoying saying has to be this "how much life does this one have?".
It's being said a lot by a particular person in my group, who's played many a time, but ALWAYS says this line when I place an orc on the board. ONLY says it about an orc, as if he knows the body points of other monsters (which he doesn't).

These are about general game-play:

(player rolls all skulls with 3 or more dice) "Damn, you just ripped that monster's head off, and &%$# down it's throat-hole!"

(reacting to a really nasty trap or ambush) "You are such an ass!" or "You sumababitch!!!"

(I place a Fimir on the board) "Are you ready to tackle the giant one-eyed monster?" (a lot of jokes like that happens with that type of monster)

(when I pickup an Orc or Skeleton from the monster box, but it's curved blade also picks-up other monsters) "Ah-ha! Its monsters-in-a-barrel!"

(When outside of the center room, where the Heroes have to defeat some Warlord monster) "Oh, now were could that throne-room be?"

(heroes finds a stone gargoyle/chaos warrior next to a trapped chest) "So, do you think adding obscene graffiti in it's face would cause it to spring to life?"

These are about the infamous door formation:

(players line figures around the unopened door) "We take 'strike pattern alpha'!"

(I look at the players with deadpan eyes) "You mean 'Form the phallic phalanx phormation!'?"

These are related to a house-rule with furniture:

(player flips or stands the figure on a table) "I don't care if it voids a treasure search, I need [cover/elevation], dammit!"

(to a new player) "Sorry, you cant search chairs or stools for treasure."

(as above, but with fellow players) "Shut-up and throw a chair at it!"

(newbie players throws a crate or barrel at monster) "Dammit, there was treasure in that!!"

This is is not that common, but it is funny:

(female player reacting to the topless female Barbarian -- called The Amazon -- figure getting armor)
Girl: "I will buy her same chainmail, she must be really cold anyhow."
Me: "What, you don't know about chainmail bikinis?" ;)
Girl: "How would that protect her, it would only cover her boobs!?"
Me: "I like to call it a "genre-effect'." :ugeek:
Girl: "Yeah... What about platemail?"
Me: "Metal bra."
Girl: "Next thing you'll tell me, is that her shield should be pasties!"
Me: ... :o "That's &%$#ing brilliant!"
Girl: :smack:

My play group are veteran hero players who have pretty much memorized the quest book at this point, so to keep things interesting I'll change things up on the fly - add or move a trap around, throw some extra monsters in the mix, etc. Now, sometimes I'll get called out on this (hey, how'd I stumble into that pit trap, it's supposed to be over there.

In response, I give my best Darth Vader impression: I have altered the map, pray I don't alter it any further...
