I've reached a conclusion about eBay sales of homebrew … and it's probably both surprising and not surprising, coming from me: The folks who made the homebrew published it for people to play, but printing is something most of us can't even do anymore at home. Printing cards is best done by a company that specializes in it. And the setup for that is complex and involved.

Paying someone for the convenience of doing that for you … seems reasonable to me, if the price is fair. Of course, the ones we're both thinking of right now are not pricing things fairly.

Fortunately, with renewed interest in the game, there's room for more ethical competition! Someone who will…

  • Price things more reasonably
  • Tell buyers that this stuff is free to download and from where (and offered because printing is not convenient and can be expensive particularly for a one-off)
  • Credits the authors
  • Encourages people to find and join the communities of fans that create these cool things

If that irritates the guy trying to sell two different decks of cards he downloaded off the Inn for $45 each, then I'm not sorry I'm not sorry for that dude's irritation. Plus, if it brings more players here, that's just a bonus!

On the other hand if somebody prints my cards and sells them, he's not going to send me a cut, is he?

Then again if you want a professional printed set of my cards, maybe I can help.

I've been way from the forums for a looong time, but the HQ addiction hasn't slowed down in the slightest in that time. Prior to the rerelease I had to build a copy of the game from scratch, which meant I spent 20:1 hours building vs playing the game. With the Hasbro rerelease I've had the chance to get back into the game on ground floor and have been fortunate enough to grab everything that's come out so far and I've never been happier.

It's bad. I play A LOT. I reckon I have probably played more HQ than anyone in the world, and anyone who says otherwise is wrong!

Still continues to buy every Quest pack released AND extra figures on eBay, just because they may come in handy, and insists on only using painted figures, despite!!
I ABSOLUTELY HATE PAINTING FIGURES!!
I used to make 1/72 model planes, I had 250 at one point, but got so annoyed with painting them, though I was actually quite good, that I stopped and sold them.
I wanted a new hobby that involved no artistic input at all, and no painting.
Cue model railways, and I was wrong about painting again. It's not just about running trains you know. I even paint the coach interiors!
Then I heard about the re release of Heroquest, my fave board game ever!
I broke out all my old stuff from the cupboard, and realised I had painted my figures so poorly they needed re doing. I was 13 when I last painted them.
Now all the new releases mean more painting.
But,
I luckily have found a guy who professionally painted them for me, for a fee, so now I have no reason to wait weeks and weeks until I can use my new figures.
It costs, but you can't take it with you!!

It's so bad that I bought all the Warhammer Fantasy Battle 3rd edition books, all the Warhammer: The Old World books, and now working on buying all the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 1st edition books and I don't even play Warhammer.

I have a major addiction to this game. It's my all time favorite board game, I just don't seem to have the time to play it anymore. I can't list everything I have bought for this game. My closet is full, I've had to start moving other board games to the basement to make room.

Guilty: I bought 3rd edition core book for WHFB, and bought one of the reprinted 40K Rogue trader core book... for background lore inspiration for HeroQuest & Space Crusade. ;)
