Amazon has quite a niffty self publishing route, once you add it up all formatted you can have it published as an ebook and a traditional paper book. The advantage of this is that the paper version is printed to order so you don't have to buy a bulk load then try and sell them yourself.

There are also a TON of blog posts out there (Google "How do I get self-published" or whatever)...

I have read a lot of articles on it over the years, and unless you get into the "Right" situation with a publisher it's nearly impossible to do it any other way than to self-publish... Which means learning a lot about how to not only use the various technologies, but also learning how to find editors to look over your work, how to go about getting reviewers to take a look and so on. There are also quite a few potential pit-falls in the layout and art departments of such projects as well. which one really should learn as much as possible about before spending the money (yes it WILL cost you money regardless of how you go about it)...

And then, the distribution and marketing side of the game is a whole other can of worms. There are lot's of resources out there to get self-published but just keep in mind that those businesses are there to help you get something technically "Published" but they are almost never actually invested in how polished the work is, nor how well placed for sales.

There is a lot to it.

Now, all of that said, do the homework, thoroughly, and DON'T give up... Write, edit, write, don't rely on friends or family to tell you if it looks good or reads well, keep polishing the work while you do the research.

The business of publishing, in whatever various approaches, is crazy, stupid-hard... But it can be done.

Thanks for the info. When it's done I think I'll try sending it to some publishers just to see if I get lucky. If not, I'll have to go the self publishing route.

I'll post the prologue here soon, still haven't got around to finishing typing it up but I should have a some free time towards the end of next week. I'll see if people who read it think it should be trimmed to a traditional prologue or left as a kind of mini setup story.
