sa(say)jung(oo as in moon)-zak Stress the first and last syllable.
Sajung is the maker of my acoustic electric bass guitar. It is made from rejected parts (for aesthetic blemishes) from the Ibanez factory. So basically it is an Ibanez I got for a lot cheaper.
Zak is simply short for Zachary, but I prefer Zach (or Zack, no one can seem to remember if it's an h or k>) Once I had a telemarketer from India pronounce the ch like in bach, heavily stressing the second syllable. za-Cha-rie This is wrong.

I had to ask Sjeng how to pronounce his name in American. Now I read it Shang, although I suspect it may be part way somewhere between sh and ch. I could be wrong.

To put it simply, Sjeng is unpronouncable for anyone other than a Dutch person or me, but Sheng comes close enough.

You do know that it really isn't pronounced Bahk, right? It's Bach. I know Americans can't make the ch sound very well, but it's not Bahk.

And Sjeng is indeed pronounced as Sheng in English. Not S-"dzjeng".

My mind did say Eye-ven-bach (with an actual German bach) and Teemoo (only shorter, not like a cow's moo).

Torilen to me is Toh-Ree-Len.

And Say-jung-zach.

Funny you mentioned that, my friend is from Estonia, and he always calls me Teemo :D Even when he writes my name :D say "t" as from "time", not as "tee" ;) tmo=TMU

Postby Big Bene » December 20th, 2013, 4:02 am

I think I aready posted this elsewhere - but well,
you are free to pronounce "Big Bene" as you like, but if you want to know the way I pronounce it myself:
The "Big Ben" part is obvious. The second "e" is pronounced just like the first one in "Ben", i. e. like "a", not the normal english way. To put it scientifically:
"bɪg bɛnɛ"
It is a pun on my real name, Benedikt (often abrievated to Bene by my relatives), and, of course, Big Ben. It is not very original, it's just a name I used for computer game characters since around 1984.

deadalus and patroclus are really simple I think (maybe I think that because I'm greek and they are greek names!)

Mine is pronounce tah-soh-eh. All syllables as flat as possible and the 'soh' carrying the most tone.
It's actually a mutation of my normal name which is Tasos.

I always said it Tay-soo (last part like "soul")

Big Bene - I am so surprised that I was pronouncing that right in my head. :)

For mine - it is torilen: tore-eh-len, stress on the "tore".
He was one of the first fantasy characters I created for my writing/fantasy world...probably 20+ years
ago. He is a ranger-type character, became a tutor for a princess (because he knows several languages
and lots of history of the surrounding regions). He ended falling in love with the young princess, and she
with him...she becomes queen when her father dies...trouble in the kingdom, meanwhile torilen is gone
trying to save the region from a crazy wizard who wants to use an evil book to cause havoc.

There is much more to the story - but it is all copyrighted material, and I choose not to give it out. :)

I am surprised how well my linguistic intuition works.
Interestingly, only Big Benes pronunciation surprised me, even though I'm German, too. Because of freakin' German orthography.

And yeah, -ch is not -k. The J- in Juan is also correctly pronounced like the German -ch-, maybe a teensy tad softer.
There are many sounds, vowels and consonants and diphthongs, that Americans think they can't pronounce. Just try, it's not hard. I mean, at all.

It's my respect (and curiosity) of different languages that actually made me open this thread.
