Battle Masters Unit Names Equivalences bw Languages

Postby HispaZargon » June 13th, 2024, 7:18 am

Dear all,

I have been always interested in knowing all the existing differences between different versions of Battle Masters board game. As most of you know, there are not actually big differences between its versions except the language they are written and some other aesthetical details, specially between US an EU versions of the game, and Japan version also incorporates a very few differences in the rules, which I will talk in a later thread I have not prepared yet.

For me the most relevant difference between versions is the different unit names. For some reason, MB decided back in the day to give different names to the unis depending in which country the game was going to be sold, so in some way, they unnintentionally enriched a bit more the Battle Masters 'world' with this decision.

Then, as compulsive researched I investigated a lot about one year ago, and I was so surprised about I did not found any complete list of unit names in all languages anywhere on Internet, after near 30 years it looked that nobody had never seriously cared about this detail of such an historical and influencing board game like Battle Masters! Therefore, I clearly saw that I had to do something to solve this important gap for the Community of HQ and BM fans, so I tried to make the big picture of this, by mapping the names of all the units in all languages, including the expansions in those countries where they existed, and at the same time trying to match the unit equivalence between them (units with different names between countries but same unit flag).

So... well, I am so glad to announce that here I have attached for eternity a table with the whole map of Battle Masters unit names and their equivalences. Believe me, I took me so much time to complete, most of the times I had to get the names from bad quality pictures here and there in rare second hand selling wesites, so I hope you will enjoy it!!

The more exhotic names are the ones from German edition of the game, maybe trying to be far from names of real cities in Germany like some of the ones existing in Warhammer Empire lore, and also the Japanese edition are also different because in their miniature base stickers were just written the type of unit.

P.D.: Of course if you notice any error in the table (specially in equivalences between units with miniatures without shields), please don't hesitate to tell me and I will correct it of course. Thanks!

great! I couldn't find any information on Spain BM anywhere. Now all we need is native speakers to translate to see what the direct translations are, if they are approximations of the English versions or something different. I bet Japanese names have nothing to do with the English names for instance. I wonder if Portuguese Battle Masters exists as HeroQuest was present in both Portugal and Brazil.
