In the last few years, I've been modelling and painting mostly GW miniatures, from other systems (newer and in the grim darkness of the far future
This made me more confident in my work, as well as a better painter. So, I've decided to start a project and finish my Hero Quest miniature painting, and post here the results.
It might not be constant, and there might be delays, but I plan to dedicate myself and do it.
So, without further ado, I am presenting you 'The Evil Wizard's Hero Quest shenanigans'!
So, my first attempts of painting HQ miniatures with a modern vibe, started right when I picked up my paintbrushes again, about 3 years ago. I decided to paint the iconic triad of a fimir, an orc and a goblin. The results were basic, compared to now:
I decided to go with the original fimir lore, rather than the box art, and paint it in the fleshy colours that Warhammer Fantasy described them.
Then, I went for the undead triad:
You will notice, the first and the second skeletons differ in how their scythes are painted: the first is metallic colours with technical rust, the second with non metallic metal. The first skeleton was painted about two years ago, the second finished about two weeks ago. It was my first attempt at NMM. I'm not 100% satisfied but it is a leap forward.
Then I went on with more complex miniatures. Please note, the majority of these are painted about two to three years ago:
Gargoyle - Bloodthirster:
Chaos Warrior:
The Heroes:
Of which, only with the dwarf I am somewhat happy:
I also had a barbarian with a broken sword and some spare swords from an Empire Wizards kit, from old Warhammer Fantasy. So, bonus, Conan the Barbarian conversion, from the Tower of the Serpents assault:
So, today, I found a half broken orc, so I decided to do a bit of a conversion, for an Ulag model. I used the arms from a fantasy orc that I had lying around, and the head of a 40k ork, with the top of the head cut off, then replaced with a half green stuff sphere for a helmet dome, and green stuff for the fur lining:
So, these are the stuff that I've been doing until now. I can now see, through the magic of my phone lens, that the results look sub-par, so I need to step up my game.
C&C are of course welcome
