So if I have this figured rightly, the average donation raised per player was $130. We managed just a bit more than that here at the Inn 2 years ago when wallydubbs attended. So good for us, but it would be great if more members got behind this so that our representative can play a different Hero (other than the Wizard). More equipment is needed, but first we'll need someone to attend . . .

Actually, two years ago when I attended I was aiming to be the Elf, and I DID have enough money to buy some equipment. However when I met my companions for the quest they were very inexperienced. The Wizard, at that time, was the most learned roll, so i swapped characters for the benefit of the group. Nowadays with so many heroes having a lack of armor, it's debatable (Rogue or Monk).

Anyhow I was living in CT at that time, currently I'm in Long Is New York, but this year if we want another inn representative I'll be happy to put my name in the hat. I could take the ferry across. I won't be able to be Zargon, though, as that would require frequent trips.

Good to hear you're up for it! Did the Quests you played include much equipment as treasure so that Heroes upgraded in-Quest?

We only played 2 quests, but there was enough treasure to give each hero at least 1 upgraded weapon or armor.

I would like to see you get your chance at playing the Elf. I would think a Brahdsword would be the goal at 250 gold coins. Maybe you can draw a Potion of Strength and one-shot another Ogre! I hope we can get four Inn donors to pledge the needed coin.

The nice bonus is we're lifting the profile of our cherished game while helping some people in real need. If wallydubbs plays the Elf, I'll be assigning the Elf icon reward to any Inn member who pledges 50 gold coins or more.

I'll donate, just need to know where to.

If it's anything like it was 2 years ago, they won't start the donation pledges until September or October.

I had intended to hold a raffle for the pledges two years ago, winner was to get a signed instruction booklet by Stephen Baker. But since he cancelled I didn't get to follow through. However if everything goes according to plan I should be getting the chance to meet Baker next week. He's playtesting a new game, Rob Zielonka (host of Dungeons of Hope) invited me to be one of the testers. I'm super stoked about it. I'm hoping to leave an impression on Baker to possibly warrant future meetings.

Just keep me posted so I don't forget. That's a long time to remember it, but I'm definitely in.

Re: Heroquest for Charity

Postby wallydubbs » Sunday March 17th, 2024 6:29pm

So I got to meet Stephen Baker, he's a really nice guy. He's working on a new game entitled "Where Heroes Dare," which was supposed to come out in October, but it looks like it's been moved to March 2025. It's HeroQuest like, a little more advanced but not as complex as D&D.
I did get to ask about Prophecy of Telor and the closing section about the dark clouds. He said he just likes leaving the ending openended for later quests, which is why Zargon is never completely defeated.
He also mentioned submitting other quest packs to Hasbro, but either they're just sitting on those for later or only wanted 1 with his name on it.

He's intending to send me and the 3 other players an Email to survey the game. I told him I wouldn't post his Email as he could potentially be bombarded by unwanted Emails. But I asked about maybe doing an interview in the future, which he said he'd be open to. He knows about the inn and would like to offer feedback for some questions.

Rob, the host of Dungeons of Hope was also present and offered me a position as Zargon. I said living in NY might complicate things on that front, but he insisted saying they need experienced Zargon's and I don't need to travel until the actual date.

Furthermore I was able to get Stephen Baker's autograph, one for me and one on an instruction booklet I'm still willing to send out. I feel bad for not being able to follow through after the last Dungeons of Hope I attended.
