Patroclus wrote:I see many good ideas like the spells of GK, but in my opinion kobolds are fine for our homemade quests. This time we supposed to do something that looks like an official expansion from GW. Actually the 3rd option of the poll says “Create one or two new sets of monsters that go beyond the minis available in the base set, but fit the theme (beastmen, chaos dwarves etc.)”, obviously talks about monsters from the warhammer world.

I was thinking for a project about creating tutorials for how to make it all, even the box, directions to buy the official minis, etc. Monsters from other world settings are fine but you can’t say it could be an official expansion for HQ in any way.

I get where you are going with this, but don't forget the official material includes Ice Gremlins, Yetis and Polar War Bears.
I understood "but fit the theme" as anything standard fantasy (Like NOT steampunk robots etc.) - Kobolds are very much a staple of fantasy settings.

Anyways we are just tossing ideas around to see if kobolds could be done in a fun fashion - which it certainly seems like it could. If the general consensus is to keep it GW, fine by me.
From the looks of it we are ending up on #3. That means we might as well start thinking of monsters.
I would recommend everyone to start pitching their ideas even now.

The process is going to be:
Decide what to do (this poll)
Decide which monster theme (beastmen, skaven, mixed? etc. etc.)
Which specific monsters (Skaven seer, assassin, ogre)
Stats and rules for each

I predict we will end up in another poll for the monster theme.

I figured "fit the theme" was more applying the spirit of the game rather than trying to stick to what GW had made. Kobolds fit that criterium well - They are a well-known and easily recognizable race of creature; their story allows for the creation of a variety of interesting roles (ranged, melee, caster, etc.); minis are readily available; and deploying a metric fudgeton of them on the board is an awesome sight. ^_^

I love the idea that kobolds are somehow kin or led by Fimir. Expanding the Fimir from the original game has a huge appeal as I always felt they were under-done in the original HQ stuff. Kobolds tying into the Fimir as a way to both bolster the original game and add a new race/gameplay is probably my favorite monster idea yet for this project. :).

I really like this idea.

Goblin-King wrote:* Village is raided by EVIL. Only four (heroes) escape - rest is killed or kidnapped. Heroes are contacted by Mentor.
* Raid seems too well coordinated - too accurate for sandpeople. Something's wrong. Heroes sent to investigate EVIL lair. Maybe free villagers?
* Discovers that SUPER EVIL seems to be guiding EVIL.
* Travel to AREA
* Investigate SUPER EVIL LAIR.
* SUPER EVIL are gathering slaves from all over the surrounding lands to be sacrificed at the SUPER EVIL temple in EVIL AREA - In order to awaken/summon SUPER AVATAR OF EVIL
* Must travel to temple. On the way nearby town is destroyed! Oh noes! SUPER AVATAR OF EVIL has already been summoned.
* Abort and instead gather X,Y and Z to unsommon. Go on crazy adventures.
* Travel to Temple to finally kill all SUPER EVIL and unsummon SUPER AVATAR OF EVIL.

suggested substitutions:
EVIL - Kobold
SUPER EVIL - Fimir (maybe?)
SUPER AVATAR OF EVIL = Dragon

I'm behind this, also.
And Trolls as the big bad/elite monster? Talking 4 AD/4 DD plus regeneration special rule?
In addition to Kobold 1 AD/2 DD including ranged attack and Fimir 3 AD/3 DD that makes a pretty decently balanced monster core.

Magic user: Fimir Shaman and/or Kobold Spellcaster

Also, a lot of Zombies (Fir Bolg, undead from the bog).
There you go, I pitched an idea in this my era of lack of creativity..

Although having the SUPER AVATAR OF EVIL as a dragon is totally rad and bitchin', I don't think SUPER EVIL as Fimir would be a good fit. Fimir are more like just the field lieutenants. They should be answering to something else between themselves and a dragon. I'm...just not sure what that would/should be.

EDIT: Fimir can be SUPER EVIL if all of them keep their base stats and add spells. Then they'd be one-man wrecking crews, sufficient to be SUPER EVIL!.

Yeah, I had my doubts over that also.I think they would be appeasing the dragon rather than serving it as subordinates.

Also, I think putting a Dragon onto the HQ Board may also present a few problems of it's own. I just couldn't resist filling in the blanks in GK's plot outline after reading your post..

I understood "but fit the theme" as anything standard fantasy (Like NOT steampunk robots etc.) - Kobolds are very much a staple of fantasy settings.

The difference is that the barbarian and the elven pack was from GW, they didn’t have to prove anything. Here we are trying to do something to look as GW as possible, and the monsters helps a lot to this direction. But if we do a poll I will accept the result.

About skavens, the settings could be:
(the generic) skaven warriors (to use them as goblins), the skaven champions (to use them as orcs), the rat ogres (to use them as ogres), and a white seer (as chaos sorcerer)

Depends on the scenario it could be more monsters in the quests like orcs and goblins, chaos warriors, or undead. For example, it could be a battle between the skavens versus the undead, and the Heroes are fighting both of them.

The bad about this setting is that the new rat ogres are huge (as the trolls) and have 4 square bases if I am not wrong. I think it’s impossible to put them in a single 1 square base. Does anyone knows more about this and if it’s possible? It could be a problem because I don’t know if there is another type of skavens that could replace them. Of course we could use the 4 square bases normally and the movement from AHQ rules, but I am not so sure if this works well with the narrow rooms of HQ..

you want my 2 cents...........i think skaven would be a good choice.
there is a good selection of skaven around to use. they fit in solidly with HQ and have a well fleshed out mythos. giving you a lot more scope to what you could do..
