@ TMU:
I don't mind small eastereggs if it can be done seamlessly. It shouldn't turn into an orgy of greetings and in-jokes though. Hero Quest has never been silly - Don't wanna start meeting trumpet playing orcs now!
I'd say do it if you like, but don't feel obligated. I think the most important part is maintaining the style of the original.
@ Thrawn:
Ah, now I get what you were trying with your list! I sorta misunderstood first

I think that's really something we need to figure out soon. Is it going to be strictly base set + print?
A possibility would be to make a new monster set, but write the questpack assuming people don't own these minis:
Use Orcs to represent Demons
Use the Gargoyle to represent the Greater Demon
Use Goblins to represent Chaos Cultists.
But at the same time actually make the minis if you don't want to use goblins as cultists.
I think it's a tough decision. I want it to be accessible to everyone, but at the same time the big pull of a quest pack IS the minis. I really want to add something new too!
tl;dr
The options as I see them:
1. Strictly game system monsters. Any variations is quest notes only, but apart from that, go wild.
2. A predefined group of new monsters (skaven pack for instance) - get you own damn minis
3. A predefined group of new monsters (skaven pack for instance) - We get a set made in HQ style
4. Free for all. Dedicated gamers have lots of proxy minis
5. We agree on a new pack of monsters that can readily be applied to existing models (Orc berserker, goblin assassin, Wraiths, Tomb King)
edit:
I know we are all (myself included) eager to start making content, but we
really should spend some time defining the framework first!
