magnet recommendations?

Postby hightechartist » August 22nd, 2019, 2:46 pm

I saw a couple people mention that they stick magnets to the bottom of all their heroquest figures and have metal under their game board. This seems like a great idea to me, even more so for the one square tiles that seem to get knocked around so easily during play.

I've been shopping online and the assortment of magnets is dizzying though. I just want to make sure I buy magnets that are strong enough to "stick" through the ~3mm heroquest board.
Anyone have any recommendations?

It won't stick, the board is too thick.

But they are great for storage boxes. I use 1mm magnets for that.
If I want a model to be bigger, I put magnet foil under the base. That adds half a mm to the base.

Yeah I'm discovering that. I'm thinking now I'll reprint the board on paper and glue the paper to ferrous metal, then spray a clear acrylic coat over it. (Maybe also scale the map up like 5-10% while I'm at it since the squares on the board seem slightly too small for the figures when a room gets filled up.)

I’ve long wondered, is that a real thing some fan published, or just a joke from that YouTube video?

I am sure it's a joke from the video "Why HeroQuest is so Great!"

It’s just a joke from that hilarious video.
But now someone has to go ahead and actually write “gravity land”, a bonus quest just for people who have unlocked magnetic HQ
