Printing game cards

Postby genaker » April 23rd, 2019, 11:14 am

Hi there,

I discovered last week the web http://www.makeplayingcards.com, and I ordered a EU mini deck with all cards from the basic system and all official expansions.

I spent a lot of time capturing the images from the pdf files of this web, and after uploading them in the webtool they have, they answered me that I will get some white lines with the images I uploaded.

I'm now resizing the images as they told me, but I'm unable to fit the images in their webtool.

Anyone has experience with card printing?.

Any help will be much apreciated.

Yes. Me. After two looooong resizing sessions in Photoshop, I made a card maker tool to save some work.

It cost a week to make the tool and probably saved an entire day of card making work. So that was really worth it.

Which cards and which format (US or EU) and which size in inch or mm do you need after all?

Thanks Anderas!!!

I'm ordering EU mini, I'm european and they are little bigger than the US mini cards.

This is the answer I got from the shop:

You should output your card file at size of 2.88" x1.97" with sufficient bleeding to avoid extra white border on your card.
Kindly please find attached cards template for your design purpose.
1. Trim size of cards is 2.64" x1.73"

2. Red dotted line (safety area) 2.4" x 1.5", please keep important images and message INSIDE this area in order to avoid them be trimmed off

3. Please allow at least 3mm for bleeds, therefore please make the graphic size at least 2.88" x1.97"(i.e. extend the image to the light blue area)

More info here:

They've told me that the problem is with the back image.

So either it is too high and not enough wide or the other way round.

If it is just for the back images, it should be easier to use

1. The US back images: Because they have no white border which needs exact placement, the scaling is really way easier.

2. To use paint.net or a similar application than my script. There are only like 10 or 15 back images.

I’m sorry, I don’t have the EU cards ready to print. But if you want NA format in bridge size I can get you the files already sized.

I would definitely like a set of the NA format in bridge size.

I'm planning to have them printed them on plastic, but have yet to get around to the arduous task of sizing all of the files.

Any tips on which print service to use?

I use MPC. The same as is linked to in the original post.

Good selection of card stocks and good pricing. I've not had any issues with significantly misaligned prints either, just one here or there among thousands of cards. I really like their quality too.

So, I'll upload my images later. Whoever uses them will have to select BRIDGE size, so that may be an adjustment if you're wanting mini cards or whatever size was referenced originally. Otherwise, you can literally just drop the images into their online template and they'll print fine.
