I think the general consensus is that it just has to be a mini that would fit into a game of HQ.

That of course raises the question of what that means.
No Space Marines or other non-fantasy stuff obviously?
Does it have to be on a HQ base?

Someone will probably get one of the first HQ minis I've ever painted, but I've been getting pretty good and having lots of fun painting Reaper Bones recently.

While this isn't about getting pro-painted miniatures, but rather the joy of giving, I really think you should paint up a new mini with your improved skills rather than sending out your old trash.

Oh, it will be something new! I didn't mean, like, one of the first HQ minis I painted a while ago. I meant, I haven't painted *any* HQ minis yet! Been practicing on Reaper Bones to build up my confidence, and I'm about ready to try some Orcs or Goblins or something!
