Nothing says you can't show it to people that aren't part of the exchange. ;)

Why would you even think that?!

But granted, the entire conversation is hilarious if you read it with that mindset!

You gotta take every opportunity you have to show it to people, am I right? I mean I play with my balls in public whenever I can. I even ask others to join in with me, and they usually do. Mind you they do be juggling balls but balls they be nonetheless.

Started on my figure the other day and hope it turns out like I plan.

Hey guys, let me propose an idea, totally unrelated to the concept of the exchange. Just an opportunistic suggestion.

I know most of us have extra figures from other games, and most of the time we are after some figures, spending hours on ebay to find them, but sometimes it's not worth the postage costs. Also, most of the time we end up with more than we need. I, for example, have lots of those night goblin archers from Warhammer Quest that are a very nice addition to HeroQuest.

So, I was thinking that maybe all/some of us could state here, what kind of those generally recognizable figures they are after, and MAYBE the person that sends them the figure for the exchange has some of those figures leftover, so they can send those along, since they're paying for the postage anyway.

That shouldn't exclude original heroquest figures, or dice, or furniture, and even if something is more rare, the person asking for it could offer some cash to be paid after receiving it. For example I might want an extra gargoyle (I don't) so I'd offer 10$ to the person that could send me one.

This in no way should interfere with what people send for the exchange. If someone asks for a couple of fimirs, don't paint him a fimir to kill two birds with one stone. If it was already in your plans then fine, but don't feel obliged to arrange the figure for the exchange to match his requests.

That being said, I am honestly not after anything in particular otherwise I'd start with a request of my own, but I do have lots of different stuff to possibly give out so people don't hesitate to post stuff like:
I'd like 3-4 extra goblins to complete a set, or I'd pay 10$ for that dwarf slayer hero from Talisman 3rd, or my barbarian has a broken sword looking to replace him offering 5$ or anything else in that sense, doesn't have to be a single thing, it could be a whole list.

Who knows, maybe one of us gets lucky and gets what he needs, possibly for free or for some friendly price, but paying zero postage in the process as that postage cost would already be paid for anyway, so it's a win-win situation.

EDIT: Try not to compromise the identity of the senders/recipients through this process. So be as specific and as descriptive as possible as to what you want. That way no one will have to ask an explanatory question, revealing possible interest in the request and somewhat giving away that he might be the sender.
