Translate Project: Against the Ogre Horde (Portuguese)

Postby washi » March 1st, 2013, 9:46 pm

I'm starting the translation of Against the Ogre Horde - Quest Book to Portuguese-Brazil (This expansion was never released here) and I'm creating this topic to post about the project progress (and solve some doubts).

My first question is a word in the first page: "...anything they have yet encountered: the Dirgrusht Ogre clan..."

What "Dirgrusht" means? I don't know this word.
I was imagining that was similar of "Disgusting", but I don't know.

Dirgrusht is a name in this case. It's the name of the Ogre clan. Kind of like a family name for the Ogres.

Let me tell you, it's not easy thing to do this. I translated it to finnish, and there were many words when I needed to take the dictionary for help. :p Because it's so different from todays english, there are a lot of "special words". But if you have a dictionary or you use google translater and have lots 'n' lots of time, it is totally possible.
Good luck with your project. |_P

I'm slowly getting back to the translation work. When I finish, could you format, drathe?

Could someone give me a little help in the "A Glimpse of Chaos" text?

"Drawing from a magical pool o Chaos power, Festral had..."

"Drawing from a mag....". Someone could write this in other way? I don't what the sentence means in Portuguese. I just imagine "drawing" as a picture being drawing and I know that this is not what the text means. I don't know English very well to compreend the expression... (sad...)

Hi....well I don't know portuguese! :)

Like "Drawing water from a well". So "pulling" out of something. It seems usually to be used with something of an indeterminate quantity. Like "Inner strength", "Willpower", "Knowledge".

I'd almost reword: "Drawing from a magical pool of Chaos power, Festral had..." to be: "Calling upon a magical pool of Chaos power..." or "Tapping into a magical pool of Chaos power..."

I don't know if that helps with translating the concept into portuguese....

Yeah, it helpl a lot!
What I wanted was just someone re-wrote the sentence with other words in English. Now I understand the idea and can translate to Portuguese.
