Hi, I think I have found an error in Japanese Quest #8... If you check the quest notes it is said that King of Godo can attack the heroes but it is not defined any Movement value for him so... does it mean the King cannot move? But, how will he attacks the heroes without moving? (The same mistake was included in Rise of the Chaos God fan questbook)

I will check the original Japanese text again if any info was originally provided about that but, what do you think?

It's difficult to determine what the original intention was from these translations alone, I agree! In our own playtesting we never made it this far. I can imagine him rolling one red die for movement (like Princess Meek) but if he just stood still there's a very good chance he will be no threat to the heroes obviously. I was hoping perhaps the figure used to represent him would provide a clue, but the "evil god figure" (Chaos Warlock) is no help there, being generic.

Further detective work is needed!

This is the original Japanese text from quest #8, Note D:

Japanese_Questbook_Quest_8_Note_D.jpg

A this is what Google Translator says:

D - When a hero enters this room, the Demon King tells him as follows. "The king is cursed by the power of darkness. Do not attack the king. The king's attack power is two combat dies. If you defeat the monster that controls the king, the king will return to sanity." You may attack the hero, but you must not leave this room. Use the evil god's piece for the king.

So... it seems to be a clear oversight in the original questbook. I think our Inn's translation should be left as it is today since any decision about King's Movement stat will be an invention from our side, but if anybody has a good idea about how to solve it, of course it could be discussed. :-)

Interesting. Being unable to leave the room implies he is meant to be able to move. He could have fixed movement like some other special characters... or he could have one red die for movement. Perhaps a note indicating the rules are unclear and the Demon King gets to make a decision?

I thought perhaps he should have the same movement as a Zombie, but again that's a homebrew guess like you said.

Sounds like an errata page should be included as an appendix. It's quite possible there are other errors . . .

I'd say a fixed movement is best as the king is controlled by the Demon King and other moster rules should apply (while under the curse.) Perhaps use the controlling monster's movement value.

Those would be Orcs, so under that solution, he'd have 8 movement squares (I assume their movement is unchanged from the EU edition stats)...

HispaZargon, thanks for reminding me that Sjeng's version exists (here) I never noticed this version really before, I was focusing on his "custom" version which revised the abilities of the equipment and "artefacts" (legendary treasures). Seeing a more literal version from you is something I look forward to seeing however! In some ways the Heroes, according to these cards, are strong... possibly stronger than in any other version (except perhaps the Wizard in the EU edition who is vastly powerful being able to use so many "quest treasures" for weapons and armor). Of course, being true to the game designers' intention, "overpowered" or not is something I am most curious about.

A question about Wandering Monsters in this version... normally I'm used to each quest saying what the Wandering Monster is in that quest, but in your version I don't see any designation. I know in this one they appear, attack (hero cannot defend) and disappear. But how do you know what monster figure to use in each quest?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, in the Japanese original version there are a total of five Wandering Monster cards in the Treasure deck... BUT all of them are different. Each card text specifies which type of wandering monster the hero finds: Goblin, Skeleton, Zombie, Orc or Mummy :-)

Oh interesting... so the card determines it for that instance, not for the entire quest. Thanks for clarifying. |_P

And since you can't fight wandering monsters, it won't be a source of infinite gold.

Hmm, I always read it as, "you cant leave the room" But he should be able to move freely within, so movement value wasnt really important since he cant go far.
Just how I saw it, a minor thing that is easy to miss.
