Sometimes the strangest fads have caught on in Japan. Seems like a cosplay barbarian from the 90s would fit right in.

Since bastianbux decided to delete his questbook from the Rise of the Chaos God thread and leave the Inn, I would like to ask, is quest 5 named Dread Castle in the original version too?
Or did you change it to make it more similar to the new release?
Also, was Balur in the original questbook too?

Hi, I noticed just now biastianbux leaving. Sad news for all of us, he did a really good and inspiring work. I hope he could return one day.

About Dread Castle, the name was defined much time before the Hasbro remake news. It was extracted from the translation performed in 2013 by Bob Bob and bluesun in this post. This translation was the most accurate one I found since as far as I know bluesun was a Japanese speaker, so I took it as basis for all the translations I have performed.

About Balur, you can see in previous posts of this thread discussed with other Inn's members why I finally decided to call him as 'Balur' (started in this post and continued in following ones). In summary, I noticed too many clues that suggest the Japanese creators intention was calling this fire mage as in EU version but I guess it seems that due to Japanese language phonetics restrictions they couldn't exactly call him as 'Balur' and it sounded for them as 'Valor', or 'Barah', depending on the translator you use. Similar issue happened with 'Verag' name in the first 'quest' for the fimir character, they clearly tried to re-use the EU version gargoyle name so that's the criterion I followed for those characters translation.

I recently spoke with a Japan Airlines employee in Tokyo and showed the Japanese Questbook text. She said the name was Balur.

This is great Daedalus. Sorry, I keep imagining funny viral spots...

A disheveled stranger confronts Flight Worker in the crowded airport:
"Who is Grimdead's lackey... tell me !??"

"Balur... the name is Balur!" (sweating)

The stranger relaxes. "Great, thank you. Also, why are you handing me your wallet? Thanks I guess! What a generous country!"
He walks away smiling and humming to himself. Meanwhile, the flight worker faints, falling off camera in comical fashion.

slam cut to black, logo appears (announcer screams) "HEROOOOO QUEST!!!"

Maybe that's all you need. But perhaps a second version is shown in which the above happens, and before the cut, it shows the old man (from the previous ad) dressed in full barbarian attire standing behind the counter and he does the shrug your shoulders gesture.

Well done Daedalus!!
Another question I have is about the Japanese artifacts. Are they using the same artwork from the European version or do they really use the arts I see in the custom pdf?
For example the talisman is clearly a modified version of the Talisman of Lore and others don't even fit the style of the originals.
And I've just seen a japanese Talisman of Lore showing the original artwork, so my doubt is now stronger if they were customized by previous users involved in this project or not.

Hi, my plan is also making a set of the translated Japanese artifacts cards again, based on the originals scans and original texts, without major modifications as I have already done with the quest book, rules of play and so on, trying to preserve the original Japanese content, meaning and style as much as posible. The same for the rest of pending components, always trying to take the original scans and texts as basis.

Here is a copy of the legendary treasures scans if needed:

HQ_Japanese_Cards_Legendary_Treasures_1991_[JAP]_[RAW-VERSION].pdf

Notice the exclusive detail of Japanese version about these cards, their back includes the text 'Legendary Treasure' in Japanese. No other Hero Quest version artifacts/quest treasures cards has a text there.

A link back to the typo-corrected NA conversions of the quest maps (not conflicting with HispaZargon's versions).

Can't wait to see your next release!
