No they can't. Gamezone Miniatures isn't a company in Spain; they won't be paying any taxes. Of course its being said that they can sell to individual buyers in any country, but they can't. They are committing an act of theft, and sending them money is supporting that theft. Just because they insist its legal doesn't mean that it is. They were found to be lying about having Hasbro's permission, but you assume they're telling the truth now? Gamezone only needed the money, because once he has that, he's too hard to legally stop. However, since his .com store is hosted in America, he won't be selling the sets through there (even though I bet that he tries).

Ok guys seriously now. Perhaps we are overanalysing with theories about ''ze Germans'' on zeir secret moon base trying to bootleg HQ and steal our bodily fluids
GameZome didnt came out as a very professional company. This is for sure. But instead of being nazi clones impersonating Spaniards, they could be a tiny company of one or two people trying to take a bigger bite than they can chew. They might be able to produce a limited range of minis, which offcourse take advantage of GW IP as about every other fantasy miniature company out there! GW created a game and a universe. GW gone nuts with their pricing (I can imagine the board of the company taking part in rituals involving blood drinking and incantations to Chaos), so many companies stepped up to offer alternatives. Some of them even better than the GW ones. So GZ is not very original, its a bad thing but hey GW is not THAT original too. Most of its IP owes its existence to fantasy literature and mythology. It seems to me that the major mistake of GZ is that they rushed this out. I mean they should be preparing for this for at least a year. Develop solid concepts, make tidy mock ups of the product, have a crystal clear vision and most of all someone to translate it in proper english because the world is full of self centered anglosaxons and their cousins . No seriously they should have a solid professional presentation cause its half way to a successfull sale. Now I would like to share some thoughts about the product.

1) My biggest concern is that if a company aquire the HQ ip, this great site and its contents will have to be shut down. I got used to be involved so personally with the modding of HQ that it would feel strange if someone was trying to put the creative Gini in the bottle again and mark limits.

2) As a graphic designer I understand that if there was going to be a new HQ ever, it wouldnt look like the old one. At least aesthetically it would be a product of this time and its fine by me, as long as it doesnt feel rushed out. The art of GZ is roughly to the right direction, but it has a long way to go. I know that comic book and speedpainting style is fashionable today in illustration, but it would have to be something alot more polished than that. If they could do it in the 80's using acrylics, oils and inks with NO UNDO keystroke, then we can do it also today with all our digital sorcery.

3) If a company was to revive HQ I would like to see it last. I would like more expansions, more scenarios, a thriving community with free stuff, that would be here for as many as possible years. I really dont care if GZ is trying to steal the IP. Hasbro stole it (moraly not legally) and left it to rot. GW was never a player since it just provided parts for MB and those Moon Design people.. oh common seriously? Some guys that run an obscure game that turns up in ebay searches to annoy me? MB people are the only ones here being ripped off. Their work and concepts are being jacked here.
Nevertheless the truth is that despite my personal views on justice, IP laws are what they are and GZ Quest will be a first class target of Morc... eeeer I meant lawyers. There will be law suits upon CDs and eventually there will be no more new HQ, no more expansions and the worst is that ther will be no more community because Hasbro will wake up, kick the ass of Moon Design nobodies, lock the rights for HQ in a chest and tear down all the HQ community.

My 2 cents

The info above came from the owner of the crowd funding site. He did not allow me to repost our correspondence, so I must paraphrase. He has signed documents from GZ that they have rights to HeroQuest sales in Spain. That is not proof and it only covers his own az. If GZ is a shell company, and since all pledges are private, there it's still much risk. If the *lemony goodness* hits the fan after money transfers hands there is no way to prove you contributed if they refuse a refund.

I've wondered the same thing. What does it take to start a business in Spain? Would you need proof of citizenship? Or just an address? That can be set up as you discovered.
