Are all pewter ones recast? Before diggin back into HQ I didn't realize there were color variants for the plastic pieces and possibly pewter- just looking for clarifications on this. Thanks!

Some test minis were cast in metal. if I recall correctly they were all slightly different. The ones in the short painting guide on the back of the quest book are examples of those. I'm not sure if they were ever commercially available. They are extremely rare in any case.

So do the color variants - like red/ white heroes for the base set and white/blue for frozen horror have to do with region or edition/release? Any idea?

White minis are always recasts. I don't know of any original white minis.
The closest original HQ minis come to being white, it's the undead cream color.

Anyone, correct me if I'm wrong.

There are a few color variants. I started a thread on hero miniature color variants and I've seen some game system miniatures that were cast in black plastic. Based on phtographs I've seen, it looks like the Elf and Barbarian Quest Pack miniatures can range from light blue to blueish gray. Mine are definitely light blue.

The white and pewter miniatures you find on eBay are re-casts, the latter being of better quality.

I found some inexplicably low cost auctions for some HQ figures. The guy doesn't include Hero Quest on the title so they didn't get much attention. I have been scrubbing paint of models for a couple of months now so I won't go after them, but maybe someone here wants to.
