Help with a box project

Postby MrBigB » November 9th, 2013, 7:16 pm

I want/need a box to hold my DIY HeroQuest game. I've seen some amazing stuff around here, but am not looking to do a full blown wood case. I picked up a decorative box at a department for about $6 that that would be plenty big for my purposes and has decent shape/function. But man oh man is the current covering ugly :?

The current plan is to recover the whole thing inside & out, and add some HQ logos on the top and maybe front coupled with some graphics/details from the original game. Unfortunately most of the logos I've come across are fairly small/lower resolution.

Does anyone have, or know where to get something higher res? I haven't really decided which version of the logo I want to use yet, but am leaning toward the title in the original Questbook.

Help?

I looked at that same box. This will be easy for you. Go back to that craft store and buy Mod Podge: Paper. Its poly-vinyl acetate made specifically for decoupage--which is the craft of cutting picture of *lemony goodness* out of other *lemony goodness*, and then gluing them onto a three-dimensional object. Also buy some cheap sponge brushes. Brush the Mod Podge onto the back of the picture, and then pressed it down firmly. If you thought to pick up a brayer, use that to smooth it down.

How does the paper hold up over time? Would I need the clear coat everything afterwords?

PVA is basically liquid plastic that dries completely clear--it'll hold up exactly like you think that would. You should clear coat it. Use the same stuff--seriously. Its works for both. If you want to pick up Mod Podge Hardcoat, that'd be even better.
