It reminds me a story of conan where he enters a forgotten tower to find two ancient clans who are fighting each other. And he chooses the “good” clan to support them against the other. There were two gates (the good and the bad) and in the middle the rooms were full of dangers. Maybe this helps but I can’t remember the title of the book.
