Somewhere around here is a picture of a Fimir in a urinal.....perhaps yet another unholy layer?

Wasn't an original joke from me, but an insider reference.

Exactly. A good joke is always based in good choice of language, in this case the amount of insider references that non-HQ fans don't get.

Slowly but surely getting the hang of the painting techniques. Lots of YouTube videos watched but there's nothing like ruining a few minis to get better. The Christmas exchange really got me started on the mini painting. Still so much to learn but I hope I'm going in the right direction.

Dude, that is indeed the right direction. There's already a lot of contrast in the light leather boots, the black wash over metallics is utilized well,
the red tunic looks good, the helmet horns do too. The highlights on the skin are nicely blended in from what I can see and there's a solid amount of contrast already.
Reeeeeeally nice, man! You even highlighted the chippings in the Black Orc's sword.

I don't even feel the need to tell you to practice highlighting and shading cause a) you know and b) you already do it well and improvements come naturally from here on.
Just use different colors for shading and highlighting wherever you can. For example, lay out a beige yellow and a really light bluish gray or one of these generic elven skintones (or basically whatever light color) on your palette and start mixing these in for highlighting for colors you wouldn't logically think of it. Same for the darks for shading. Then you'll get the hang of practiced color theory and have real fun.
One constructive criticism: the dark on the axe blade should go right next to the highlight of the surface next to it, meaning it should go to the top od the big surface, not the bottom.

Thanks dude, that's why I love this site, the information sharing is invaluable to newcomers like myself. I'm going to have to read your comment a few more times to take it in, mixing colours for shading or highlighting is a big jump. I'm using basic colours off the citadel chart, trying to get better at actually painting. Thanks again.

That's the good thing. You don't have to do what I''m suggesting.
You're definitely on one of the right paths.

Pretty much finished these 3 sections. I'm going to get started on the final two sections tonight.

3D board looks really cool. My question is how do you do doors for different quests in different locations?
