Love it... Heh... Guessing that would have it's own challenges with CR.

Ok ! There is unanimity on Dungeon Legacy then :D.
As I would like to avoid parasitizing/conflicting with other people creations (the webcomic with the same name) what do you think of:

- - - Dungeons Legacy - - -

Does it sounds weird with the plural?
Does it still sound like what Goblin-King described?
Goblin-King wrote:The word "Legacy" evokes thoughts of long forgotten mythical monsters, fabled treasures and lost kingdoms. In addition it also allures to the legacy of HeroQuest which is it's inspiration.

If Dungeon Legacy sounds definitively better then I'll figure something out like a "if you are searching for the webcomic it's this way"
I didn't answer to your different comments about the project : I'm happy that you find it interesting ! As soon as the title will be finally decided I'll create a development thread with more screenshots and information :barbarian:.

Thank you again!

I am not a lawyer, but if I understand copyright/trademark law correctly, you can choose to name something the same as or similar to a different trademarked product as long as there's no danger of people confusing one product for the other. In this case, one Dungeon Legacy is a comic, while the other is a video game, although both (I assume) are about dungeon-crawling, which muddies the waters somewhat. Personally, I love the name and think you should go for it anyway.

Also, "Dungeons Legacy" does sound awkward, but "Dungeons: Legacy" does not. Similarly, "Dungeon's Legacy" or "Dungeons' Legacy" would make sense if used.

You could simply contact the creator of Dungeon Legacy the comic and ask him if there will be any trouble if you create a video game with the same name.
Maybe he is a cool guy!

Some of these exist, and Glorantha will certainly get you sued.

I like Questing Heroes, or a variation like Questing Adventurers, or Questing Swords. Mighty Heroes (unless that exists...), Heroic Quests, LOOT!, To Arms!, Going Under, into the dark.

How about "The Epic Adventures of Sjeng and friends"? Or Sjeng's Quest? All Hail Sjeng?

Thank you for the input! Much appreciated.

Sjeng and cynthialee thank you also for your proposals too.

All in all, Dungeon Legacy's variants are now title contenders.

About some new ideas can I have your opinion on
● Dungeon Chronicles
● Dungeon Rules!
● Live and Die by the Dungeon

Dungeon Chronicles and variants (Dungeons' Chronicles etc.) are surprisingly not taken (else by a very small amateur hentai game, this is not bothering me at all, not like the webcomic). As for Dungeon Legacy it's not that original, but at least there are no other -real- product with a similar name. And I like the literature image brought by the "chronicle" word. Board gamers usually like books and papers, and in fact this game's stories will be -as exposed in my second post- really worked out, not just empty shells to justify heroes fights. In this case, what kind of variant would be the best? "Dungeon Chronicles" I guess? Single "Dungeon" as a general entity (all the dungeons ever) and plural "Chronicles" because there will be multiple stories and adventures in the game right? If you think this sounds strange to pronounce, then "Dungeon Chronicle" by considering the whole game as a single chronicle.

For the "Dungeon Rules!" (or even "Dungeon Rulez!")... to my non-native-english-speaker ear it sounds fun. It has a double meaning: board game rules + dungeons are one of the best thing ever :barbarian:! On the other side, it sounds like a real-time/action game instead of a low pace strategy one. Maybe "The Dungeon Rules".

For the final one... it's a kind of love declaration: nothing but a dungeon... Or maybe "To Live And To Die by the Dungeon" or "To Live and Die in the Dungeon"...?

If it's used, probably best to think of an alternative.

Chronicles sounds a bit more paper power as opposed to blood and guts.

As for Dungeons: Brotherhood, this could work if the game was called Dungeons and Brotherhood is the first installation. As in the next 1 could be called Dungeons: The reckoning, as an example.

I liked Traps & Treasures for a more younger variant!

Either Dungeon Legacy or Dungeon Chronicles both sound very good to me. I'd suggest going for the one with no prior mention - even if the other usage is a webcomic, they may decide to make a game one day and then there could be unpleasantness. You could ask them (as someone said, "maybe they're a cool guy") but if they're not, or if they pretend to be and change their mind later, it could get awkward. So for me, Dungeon Chronicles seems perfect.

Dungeon Rules! doesn't sound as good to me, but as you've explained the non-serious setting, it might fit quite nicely anyway, because of the dual meaning of it that you already mentioned. Not my personal favourite, but hey, it's your game. ;)

Dungeon Rules! sounds boring; like you have to learn a bunch of rules...
I'm not particular keen on anything with Brotherhood... For me it kinda misses the target. I don't see the party as a "brotherhood" as such.

.....

I'm actually pretty interested in the legal parts of this though. Can it really be true that just because some random dude makes a webcomic, that name is forbidden from all other products?
Or to put it differently... Just because anybody in the world made anything with X name, is said name forbidden from everything else? It's like naming your character in a videogame! xxxhammerdin1983xxx

You are definitely forbidden from using his designs, world, characters etc. But what about a thing like a name? Doesn't he have to trademark it?
Without being a lawyer I'm inclined to believe you could legally call it "Dungeon Legacy" without even having the need to ask permission.
But this is a gut feeling... The law can be slippery- Better call Saul!

Quoted for relevance. Let me add, however, that Goblin-King is probably right to suggest that any work not under the protection of the trademark is fair game with regards to name usage.
