Hi Daedalus

Thanks :) Hopefully it will grow into something more sophisticated; part of the hassle in getting it to work was getting it to work for different kinds of cards. Once the save/load features are working, it should be possible to write some extra stuff that will take multiple definitions of cards and render them all as a PDF.

Its some way off, but would a 'bulk import' help with your huge card translations project?

Right, quick update: The card editor has been updated to let you change the item image for the sample card layout. I stole some images from Sjeng's treasure cards - hope he doesn't mind!

HQ version: http://imperialvault.co.uk/DeckSmith/EditCardHQ.html
Warhammer Quest version: http://imperialvault.co.uk/DeckSmith/EditCardWQ.html

Next up is building a library of different card types with appropriate fronts/backs, item art etc, and being able to choose which type of card you want.

Now that its working to a basic level, what do we think? Is it useful?

nice work!
I stole my images from this very site, so no problem there :P

Perhaps you can make the images fit in the frame better?

I like the larger description box for entering text.
As more images are added, how do you plan to allow for their display? Scrolling left or right could work, but please keep a large number visible at one time. Maybe a drop-down box that could be expanded and collapsed. Otherwise a linked page would work, I guess.

Progress continues, the latest version can be found here: http://imperialvault.co.uk/DeckSmith/EditCard.html

@Daedalus: I've altered the way images are displayed, you can now choose from a pop-up gallery that shows thumbnails in pages.
@Sjeng: I've tweaked the sizes of the images I was using so that they fit the HQ Item card better. The HTML 5 canvas abstraction I am using doesn't seem to cope very well with displaying images at different dimensions to the raw image size. I have a plan for automatically scaling them, but at the moment, they are rendered at the size of the image file itself.

Changes include:
  • Nicer layout
  • Pop-up image selection
  • Multiple types of card to be edited - look out for the HQ Item one.
  • Select, drag, rotate, resize images and text
Next up:
  • More card types. A HQ Monster card type is soon to be added - so I can finally replace my missing gargoyle card :gargoyle:
  • Save / load cards for editing later
  • Card backs

Let me know what you guys think :)

Another update: http://imperialvault.co.uk/DeckSmith/EditCard.html

Improvements include being able to pick the card back image, and more choices of images for the Hero Quest Item type. As it stands, this layout can be used for equipment, treasure, quest artifacts, spells etc by picking appropriate card back images and item art.
The image picker has been improved to render images at sensible sizes.
The export button should now work again.

I plan on producing a HQ Monster template next, improving the quality of the images in the exported PDF, and saving the your card in a format that can be opened and edited at a later date.

Let me know what you think, and post any cards you produce with the tool!

Cheers
