He is dead. So you have searched the marked room and the fireplace room. You haven't searched the fireplace, the alchemist table and it's room and the stairway room.

The floor has become quite tricky with the blood everywhere.

Yes diagonal is enough. You see a suspicious stone in the middle space of the Fireplace that seems not really to be fixed. As you remove it you see a small lever underneath.

Everybody standing on one of the three squares in front of the fireplace may use it. It's a free action, but everybody can do it a maximum of one time per turn.
