Awesome. Feels like playing myself again. Time to get my cards printed, for heaven's sake.
Thanks again for the report.
I figured this would be another quest where the skeletons' diagonal attack would be as devastating as I want it to be. One or two deaths and a lot os tactical fun would be the goal with this quest.
It's one with not too many gripes if no one survives, even. In that case, I'd let them enter the dungeon with mercenaries, for a first-look into that, with the mission to really clean up and kill Skulmar.

Consider disabling the diagonal ability for this one quest: I guess without having tried it, that this would finish the entire group!

Thanks for the awesome report! I was reading it already earlier, but had time to answer just now.

Alas, 'tis.
Many of my villains (as I call monsters to accomodate for a less B&W background world) have special abilities and tweaked stats.
Most of these changes are implemented because of my choice of miniatures.

Anderas, as I tweak and re-write every quest I find interesting or useful so that they fit my rulebook, the diagonal attack will be considered here.
This is one of the quests that will take some alone playtesting before I do that.
Maybe someone else wants to try?
The Forgotten Legion with medium-well-equipped heroes and diagonal-attack Skellies?

In fact, yes! :D

What's medium equipped for you? 3 dice attack and defense?

The diagonal ability certainly makes sense miniature wise :skeleton: . The Scythe is a long two handed weapon much like a spear or halberd.

Yeah, basically. Barbarian 4 attack, Wizard 2, both may attack diagonally.
Other than that attack and defense 3.
Give the Wizard 12 spells, 3 of which are Ball of Flame.
Dwarf has a crossbow, Elf has 3 spells and the Spirit Blade.

That's where the idea came from. Now my Skeletons are Confrontation models and they all have longswords or spears or halberds, so that fits.

I'm kind of interested in that now, too! I expect that quest could easily lead to a TPK with diagonal-attacking skeletons, but smart heroes that keep moving could maybe do alright.

This week, we attempted The Forbidden Caverns and, as per this thread viewtopic.php?f=11&t=314, this is a grueling quest. I must say this is the first time we haven't finished a quest in one sitting.
To be fair, it wasn't all due to the quest itself. Vrag the Barbarian got into a fender bender on his way over (no one was hurt thankfully), so not only was he twenty minutes late, but then he was on his phone filing an insurance claim for another twenty minutes.
Then, after getting into the quest a bit, Miranda the Elf got a personal phone call she needed to take, that ended up being a bigger deal than she expected.

But we gave it a go, and I really slowed my heroes down with the spawning undead. They did eventually figure out that if they stood on those spaces, a monster would not spawn. They began to search the rooms in vain for something that would stop the monsters from spawning, but eventually realized that they just needed to keep moving.

Well, about three and a half hours after we started playing, it was time to call it a night. There was serious discussion about using the Ring of Return to go back to the stairwell and leave (in order to start the quest anew next time), but in the end we all took pics of the board on our phones and I noted which spells had been cast, etc. We'll see how The Forbidden Caverns Part 2: Electric Boogaloo turns out next time...
