BQP: The Frozen Horror Remake Main Thread!

I don't know why, but I am still astounded by the silence by AH on details for this, given that Amazon is selling for delivery very soon. I just don't get who forgot to take marketing 101 in college over there.

I may have missed this elsewhere in the thread, but I didn't see anyone mention the card count.

The original NA BQP had 30 (?) cards. Per the Inn's Product info page (I lost all of my original cards to an ex many years ago, and my Questbook is packed away), there are a total of 30 cards as follows:

Artifact: 10
Chaos Spells: 6
Monster: 8
Treasure: 6

The 2022 Edition lists a total of 35 for a +5 card gain. I'm guessing that we'll see the same basic card distribution as the original 1992 edition for 30 of those. But what about the other 5?

At least 1 will be the Character Stat card. We have seen that in the product teases already.

Possibly another could be the reference card. Not really necessary as we have access to at least four.

1 could be the Broadsword equipment card.

That leaves 2 additional cards? The logical "Extras" would be equipment cards for Potions. Except there are 4 unique Potions in the original BQP. It seems odd to think that AH wouldn't offer cards for those?

Alternately, there will be no reference or Broadsword cards, and so with 1 Character card and 4 Potions, the math works. And it'd be the best option if we were limited to 35 cards.

Not having another Broadsword equipment card seems strange to me though. NOTE: I am not saying it's needed, just that having an extra would be nice.

It'd also be curious since the existing Character Packs (Knight and Rogue) come with enough starting gear, to in theory, allow for two of those Heroes to appear in the same game.

So, if the Broadsword is missing from the set, it suggests a possible pattern going forward (for Questpacks) of no, non-unique, starting gear.

Again, given a choice, I'd give up the Reference card and Broadsword to have all 4 Potions. No question.

But I feel like they could have increased the card count to 36 in order to add at least the one Broadsword.

I don't think it's that big a mystery. The Four Alchemist Shop Potions will be 4 equipment cards. The female barbarian will have its own "Hero" card. That explains the five "extra" cards. There would also be no need to throw in extra Mercenary Monster cards even though there are twice as many mercs in this pack.

They wouldn't need to provide an extra Broadsword card. If you want to compare it to exclusives, they only added those bonus equipment weapon cards for starting weapons for those characters. But they didn't give us an extra Broadsword for the mythic female barbarian or two extra shortswords for the mythic male elf and female dwarf. There was no extra dagger for the Mythic female Wizard (the extra dagger card in the Mythic box was for the starting weapon for the Druid) and no extra dagger for the alternate "Mentor" Wizard character in that box either. The "actions on your turn" cards were only included in the game system box, nowhere else (officially they don't provide any rules for playing with more than four heroes at a time).

Yes, the Hero Collection Knight had its own equipment cards for what are essentially dupes with alternate artwork (and short blade vs short sword), and I would expect the same for the Rogue Heir, but those are a different kind of product. I wouldn't expect Frozen Horror to follow that convention or like you said, it should have 36 cards.

The female Barbarian in the Frozen Horror is just a sex swap, not a new hero with different stats (it even says in the quest booklet that it's only meant as an alternate of the standard Barbarian with no different abilities). So that to me answers it. There's literally NO reason to add another broadsword card since the female Barbarian simply replaces the male one if you use her in the quests. Other than wanting to see more alternate artwork... I know some of us use the Equipment deck as a random generator but that's a homebrew thing. But each of the "hero themed" quest packs intended to provide a female alternate of one of the four main (originally male) heroes, and specifically tell you that only one of each character type is intended to be used by a hero player in a quest at a time.


And I'm standing by what I said elsewhere which is that I (sadly) don't expect them to make any changes to this beyond cosmetic, and the usual word substitutions like the remake Game System. If they want to head off complaints, they should release that official errata soon.

I highly doubt any of these websites selling pre-orders will get their product shipped out to anyone any faster than Hasbro itself once the game appears on their actual website as in stock. I wouldn't expect anyone to get it before GenCon, in fact, but that's just trying to think about it logically, I don't have any top secret info. The Frozen Horror being for pre-order we've known about since September 2021! thanks Blayze!.

This is not a drill! Amazon just charged my card for the Frozen Horror! Amazon doesn’t charge until they are ready to ship!!!!! The status on my order page has updated from “Preordered” to “Preparing for Shipment”, but Expected Delivery still says “July 13 - August 7”. Could we actually be seeing it within the week or two!? I was certain we wouldn’t see shipments until Avalon Hill announces it at GenCon in August, but maybe Amazon already has inventory in stock and ready to go?

Edit (two hours later): I now have an Amazon/USPS TRACKING NUMBER!!!! The shipping label has been created! I’m hyperventilating here!

So I see stylistically a lot of the stuff that was a kind of brownish red parchment is now the pastel blue color and the "undetectable" traps are a light greenish color instead of a light blueish color like the original. I guess the new tiles are still the reddish hue on the quest book map pages and the extra cutouts page at the end.

Similar to KK/ROTWL remakes, the alchemist shop card images are at the start of the book and the artifact images at the end, and the cards are full size as expected. Follows the same template as the other remake expansions mostly.

The Mercenaries appear dark/navy blue in the pictures on the box and in the book but most certainly gray in the actual plastic and the rest are pastel blue as we've been seeing and the dice are semi-transparent blue, looking like gumdrops or throat losanges as opposed to casino dice. The new character sheets are nothing to scream about they just show the 10 quests instead of 14, a few icy details and blue ink, otherwise the same as before.

Joe says he got it from Amazon today.
