Here I'm going to (as I rarely do) disagree. I do not actually think it is an error the way it is set up. The crystal vial is simply a red herring in the long run. All it does is help you identify the FALSE tomb, which the Heroes will find very early in the quest. Later on, the true tomb is found since that is the goal of the quest and the final room. As long as the bearer survives, he will find the final goal at last. The "true power" was with the bearer of the Talisman all along, not in the vial, which simply broke the spell of the illusory tomb. Now I understand why there were two uses of this furniture, since you would obviously try it on the first tomb you find, but it proves a decoy and transforms and so the second is available for use at the end.

Make sense? You have to think about it for a minute, and trace it out in your mind then it actually makes sense, the only true error was the missing "A." Even Mentor isn't always right... :2cents:

I know what you mean, Kurgan, probably that could be the designer intention, but I am not sure if it is sufficiently explained or conducted in the questbook. I see parchment text meaning and quest notes are a little bit contrary, even if Mentor is mistaken.

Think in a game where players reach the false tomb and shatter the crystal vial. The tomb dissapears and it is replaced by a table, ok, what happen next? I guess players would say something like "we have broken the vial and nobody has appeared" or "why Mentor said we should break the vial?".... but they will not receive any answer except silence.

After that they would sure find the secret door in central room and they would continue exploring the dungeon and find the real tomb, sure, but what would be telling them that they should do it? How will they find Telor spirit if the item they had to achieve that has been already broken? Players will be walking through the dungeon without knowing why they should do it.

Ok, we can accept the bearer has enough power to detect Telor without using any vial since he/she is a Telor' familiar, as later suggested as something unknown for Mentor, but heroes will not know it until the real tomb is found. Therefore, I think some fix is needed in between to give sense to this quest once the vial is broken. After that event I think there is not any plot driver for players except just exploring...

One possible plot easy fix could be including at the end of Note A a text like this one: "... robbers from looting Telor's tomb. Tell the heroes that left wall of the room has started to glow blue." This could be a clue provided by Telor's himself, once they break the vial, assuming Telor's spirit has detected the near presence of the heroes and he wants to guide them to the real tomb. It would also match with previous use of the vial to detect the secret entrance stairway, as explained in parchment. Just an idea, of course others could be better.

Yeah, younger players or noobs might get frustrated and start to wonder if Zargon knows what he's doing (are you sure you're playing it right?). "Keep exploring!" as a suggestion to the heroes. A subtle clue would be appropriate, I agree.

additional errors I've found in Spirit Queen's Torment questbook:
Quest 5 - Room left of the upper double corridor has an additional double blocked square - should be single blocked squares only - as the main game has only 2 (needed for the center double corridor)

Quest 7 - Blocked Square in bottom left can be removed, it is not necessary as it is already a blocked off (and should be grey) hallway.

Quest 8 - Missing Double blocked square in lower double corridor - hallway is shaded but not blocked off.

I'll likely find more in the text as I scrutinize it further (yes, I'm having that much faith in the new material already...!)

"has no sense" - that's not correct!
Bracers may be more expensive than chainmal (550 gold instead of 500), but are immune to the Chaos-spell "Rust".

They are also clearly stated: "can be combined with helmet and/or shield" - not with other armour - just like chainmail and plate armor.

These bracers are derived from the second version of HeroQuest (v1.1, British) where this item was an armor that the wizard could buy. That edition didn't have the "wizard's cloak" which is an artifact from the US version (which doesn't have bracers).

Except the Chaos Spell rust didn't affect Chainmail in the NA edition (in the EU Exclusive Wizards of Morcar it might have destroyed bracers as well since it wasn't limited to just a helmet or sword)...

It made sense to me that they included the "helmet and/or shield" text to show that a non-Wizard hero COULD wear it imply that it would take the place of body armor if they did. We just assume the Artifact known as the Wizard's Cloak doesn't interfere with the bracers, just like the Cloak of Protection didn't in the EU edition. In the remake only the Wizard or Druid can wear the Wizard's Cloak, but anyone could wear the bracers (only the Wizard could in the EU 2nd edition from 1990).

So I don't see an error here, just a bit of vagueness that can be cleared up just be thinking about it for a second and then comparing the earlier editions.
