Here I'm going to (as I rarely do) disagree. I do not actually think it is an error the way it is set up. The crystal vial is simply a red herring in the long run. All it does is help you identify the FALSE tomb, which the Heroes will find very early in the quest. Later on, the true tomb is found since that is the goal of the quest and the final room. As long as the bearer survives, he will find the final goal at last. The "true power" was with the bearer of the Talisman all along, not in the vial, which simply broke the spell of the illusory tomb. Now I understand why there were two uses of this furniture, since you would obviously try it on the first tomb you find, but it proves a decoy and transforms and so the second is available for use at the end.
Make sense? You have to think about it for a minute, and trace it out in your mind then it actually makes sense, the only true error was the missing "A." Even Mentor isn't always right...
