I like the plank one. It makes sense while retaining some degree of hilarity.
I dunno about the others though.

I think I'm done with the bard now... Until we get to playtest it

wtf I love the druid now?!

She lost the yoga pants completely. The model is fine now.
Her abilities are very balanced in comparison to classic heroes.
A bit weaker than the elf, due to no metal armour, but higher damage output with a spell that can be regained.

wallydubbs wrote:It's Pixie I don't get: Heals 2BP on any hero or search. It's the "or search" that I don't get.
Search for traps and secret doors in line of sight? Couldn't the druid just perform that search herself without asking the pixie to do it?

When a hero searches, she just search the room/corridor she's actually in. She also only search for either traps OR secret doors (Searching for both at once is a house rule).
Potentially you'll be able to see several corridors and rooms at once and search for both traps and secret doors in all at them at once.
So the Pixie can basically function as a scanner sweep 8-)
Not super powerful, but situationally useful.
But F that anyways, because you are gonna need that heal to get your Shapeshift back. Using the Pixie to search is like using the Genie to open a door.

That's a terrible way to design! The first thing you learn in game design college is that form follows function.
Also notice that her entire theme is plants - None of her spells are plant based

I believe that quote is a plant. Pay no attention to the words behind the designer this is not the carnivorous plant you’re looking for. (Feed me! ......Feeeeed meeee!)

With the updated art and the new play test, the Druid looks like it might be fun to play. I noticed the Pixie spell says it can "Restore up to two Body points that have been lost to one hero", and the Lifeforce spell says "This spell may be cast on any one hero, including yourself". Does this mean that Pixie can't heal the Druid?

If it's not meant to be useable by the Druid, then they definitely need to clear up the wording.
The druid is 'one hero'. I would think that she could heal herself with the spell. The 'one hero' wording may be intended to clarify the fact that you can't split the 2 HP between 2 heroes.

There does come the question of the level of orc "sentience".
And after writing that I remembered that Hasbro/Avalon Hill dropped the word Chaos, they 100% will be dropping that orcs = murder fungi...

Goblin-King wrote:If we HAD to have an orc "hero", why not something plausible like an orc barbarian or shaman?
Heck, I could actually go for a grizzled old orc shaman reluctantly teaming up with the heroes to free the spirits of his ancestors.
As a shaman, he's the only one of his kin who understands and cares about the terrible fate that has fallen upon his fellow orcs.
I don't even mind expanding the lore with ruins of an ancient orc kingdom, just cut the part of them having been wannabee high elves.
(Writing it up like this, this actually sounds salvageable)

The orc bard is just so far removed from everything, he feels like a tour guide at a cheap tourist trap.

In a single paragraph you've come up with a far better sounding plot that actually fits the grim world of HeroQuest than the synopsis the guest designer gave. I wonder why? Oh yeah, it's because you've actually played the game and are familiar with it, and have a working knowledge of fantasy before the year 2000.

I like orcs to be tribal and clannish, led by warlords or at least the strongest orc in earshot, too nomadic to have any civilization of sorts beyond hide, tusk and bone tents, hut villages, haphazardly constructed shanty towns, and usurped ruins or fortresses from other races with more advanced engineering. :orc: Easily dominated and used as shock troops by more powerful or cunning evil entities, who follow simply because they love violence and warfare more than they fear the lash or death. Their lives are short and brutal with few ever living to old age due to constant strife. Shamanism primitive ancestral magic is the extent of their dweomercraft, far more brutish than the elegant and complex arcane magics that require a lifetime erudition of thick tomes and grimoires or a mentor's tutelage in the mastery of wizardry or worse giving one's soul to dark powers to be a slave of evil powers in exchange for command of sorcery.

Boyband pirate Shrek orc-bard is clearly cut from a different cloth, I am not really sure what world and type of orcs that comic fop :cheese: would actually make sense in, but I want no part of it. |_P

The whole fungal reproduction thing was only ever mentioned in Warhammer 40K, and was not in any edition of Warhammer fantasy battles (I have them all) and the early years 1st through 3rd edition included half-orcs which insinuates procreation in the standard method.

Snicker snicker
first druid in history without plant spells, bwahahaha...ahem.
Back to the drawing board.

A fantasy druid archetype that was a beast shapechanger with suitable woodland attire and nature based spells to boot named Galvin was in a Jean Rabe Forgotten Realms novel entitled Red Magic, I suggest they pick up a copy give it a read and rethink their entire approach to this "druid" character.

So...
The warlock has a spell that she can get back that gives bonus dice until she takes damage.
The druid has a spell that she can get back that gives bonus dice until she takes damage.

um... good design =/= copy and paste.
