I hope it reaches 3m. I've never painted minis before, I'm going to need something to practice on that I'm not worried about screwing up.

HQ has a very good/bad alignment structure. There are goodguys and badguys. Sometimes the goodguys get corrupted and become badguys, and sometimes badguys get decapitated and become undead badguys. Why do you have to add misunderstoodguys? How does that make it better?

The new writers and artists don’t understand Heroquest in my opinion. I was reading the intro by the the D&D guy who’s writing the Spirit Queen Quest and he is keen to introduce orcs as allies, as well as hark “back to a time when orcs had powerful magic” or something. What, he’s never heard of Grawshak or played Wizards of Morcar? Heroquest had weight behind it because it was based in a grim Warhammer world which already had a lot of flesh on it. You knew the orcs were evil and could be spell-casters. You certainly didn’t have to worry about their feelings or listen to them sing.

Folks are glad to get new content after all these years, but I stand by the comment I made weeks ago that just because it’s got the official label slapped on it, it won’t necessarily be something you’ll want to play. So far we’ve had an orc bard Hero, a gym-going Druid based on a succulent, and a Halfling that’s infected with a demon who can fly all over the dungeon. It’s all over the place conceptually.

I’m still really looking forward to Bakers quests though.

Its happening everywhere, bringing in people to work on a project who have absolutely no clue to what they are entering or even a fan of. For example the Fighting Fantasy Books 30+ years of cover artwork of dark creatures and warriors to get you in the mood for adventure. Ruined in just one book, this latest one just released, Crystal of Storms makes me want to bake a tray of cookies.

For those who don't like the orc bard, it's pretty easy to proxy in another mini for a bard, so long as you don't mind a lack of the 'perfectly matching' style. Then the new orc bard... is the boss orc that you've been missing! A charismatic leader orc that grunts inspiring commands to his fellow greenskins!
I know this has been said already, but the druid girl doesn't quite look like grimdark dungeon material. She's a slightly chubby, minimally clothed magic babe. Maybe she'll offset that with the ability to summon nature-allies somehow?
... not bad lookin' though ...

The Cherubic Warlock (with her crystal/fiery right hand) is more of a match for the new Goblins. Looking to fill out a "cute" set, here are some nice options from Reaper (not an advert, just observation). Look at those adorable Boneslyvanians and Mouselings (plenty of bards to choose from as well, but no pirate orcs, it's true).

And yes, re-purposing minis is something the original game taught us how to do back in the day so that's always an option!

As for Bards, I've seen some custom 3d prints of the four Classic Heroes out there where they each have a music instrument like some kind of band.

They've been updating those pictures behind the new Heroes and they now all clearly says "Spells" so that's probably 3 spells per character (if the Warlock is any indication), so another 9 spells, with 6 more to be revealed. Still less than the official Quest packs that were released later. And 8 more miniature varieties than would have been included in the original System (not counting KK/ROTWL which had no unique minis, only new tiles/quests).

While I'm not too excited about using the new characters, I'm excited to hear about what they come up with. Again, let's hope they actually play test them in combinations, etc. both the new characters and the new quests before release.

You could proxy in a new bard of course. But I have a horrible feeling that the orc as a good guy idea is going to be more systemic somehow. We’ve already heard that the writer of the new quest pack is going to push the idea of orcs as allies. Perhaps you will be forced to use the orc bard in that adventure, perhaps there will be new orc rules that will be so central to the pack that you won’t be able to ignore them.
I can think of a few ways to make a orc bard model useful though, such as it being a human bard that is under some sort of disfigurement curse. There are even a few situations where orcs could work as temporary allies; Ethica did a really nice home-brew in which the Heroes can opt to ally with an orc warband in order to bring down a dragon (the orcs turn on the Heroes straight after of course, in keeping with the existing HQ world-view). And there are the excellent lone monster cards too.

As for the Druid, I think it could be a decent model outside of a dungeon crawl setting. From now on I think I’m going to call her the “Extinction Rebellion Druid” :D .

Has anyone made a homebrew ruleset yet where the 4 hero's are minions of Zargon and Zargon sends them on a quest and the GM would be Mentor? Just asking because I think it would be interesting and now it seems the lines are being blurred between what's good and what's evil
