It will definitely hit every stretch goal and unlock even more most likely. I know many here are not thrilled with every, or any, aspect of the release, but I think this new release is nothing but good for Heroquest. There will be more players, more interest and with the clear appeal to buyers much more content coming as well.

I think its good they look different than the originals since I have all of them already, so itll be nice to mix and match and make as many changes as I want with the new stuff too. It'll be a year until we have hands on, but im very excited nonetheless for this new version

Anyway, so I guess most of us own the original, right? So why is everybody jumping in on this? It looks exactly the same. (not necessarily a bad thing, especially for people who don't have the original)

And does anybody think it's going to have new or different scenarios or expansions to offer?

Not everyone here is a fan, maybe 50/50? Personally I can’t see why anyone who already has the original would spend money on this. Far better to spend a little bit more and grab the splendidly excellent Litchmyre Dungeon stuff, if you really wanted new minis.
If I didn’t have the original game I’d rather spend a bit more and bag it off EBay, considering the art and figures were better back then than what Hasbro are offering.
There are other options too, not least printing off the great content right here, and building up your own mini collection using Zealot, Etsy, Reaper, or the aforementioned Litchmyre stuff.

As for the new expansions that might come along, I am really excited to see what Steve Baker has come up with his cameo appearance, but other than that I have strong doubts. There are people right here that have designed home made packs that will probably put the “official” new stuff in the shade. Purchasing ownership rights doesn’t give someone the automatic ability to design decent questbook material. I have doubts whether the new owners really “get” Heroquest. Again, I would be very, very happy to be proven wrong about that.

I would love to have a modern fresh design of the old miniatures and artwork, but the new Hasbro game has just totally failed in this case. In my opinion this is soulless interchangeable 0815 design. The miniatures look like someone has played a few minutes with the HeroForge editor.

Just an assumption, but the old figures were designed by GamesWorkshop. The artistic license for those figs probably remain with GW. If the Hero's were remotely close to the originals there would probably be a lawsuit. GW doesn't own the rights to Barbarian/Wizard/Dwarf/Elf so as long as the designs are completely different, then there is no chance as legal issues.

Not telling you to like the new figs, but they most likely wouldn't have been able to do a modern refresh on the old design due to artistic license held by GW.

I neither have expected a copy of the design, nor a homage. I hoped there would be a modern fresh design, but in my opinion the new design is unimaginative and inferior. It seems like the whole thing was made in a rush. By way of comparison, Mice and Mystics
is a good example of a consistent and sophisticated design.

There already is the new questbook by Stephen Baker at $2m and another new questbook but they don't make it clear when that other one unlocks

THIS is what I was hoping for. Hopefully we'll see original material in a stretch goal or a later expansion...

Since some folks have been pointing out where to grab up some quality miniatures, I figured I'd share this:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jackdire/lost-in-the-north-woods
Especially for those of you who are into painting. These are huge, we're looking at 10-15 cm high.
I own the game too, and it's fun!

Yet, I don't want to derail this thread, so back to the idea of the new HQ minis.
I thought they looked fun, and have had the thought that many of the new minis could proxy for new monsters in HQ.

1.3 million looks like second tier should unlock soon.
Pace is slowing down though. I’m sure it will pick up after their weekend pulse extravaganza.....lol

Wouldn’t it be hilarious if, after all this time worrying about stepping on Games Workshops shoes with a re-release, the World of Warcraft guys turned around and busted Hasbro for copyright infringement!

Re: Heroquest remake by Hasbro - The BIG discussion thread

Didn't know there was a thread in here about the news, so I previously posted in the other threat at the pub, which was more visible to me in the first place. Anyway I'll join the discussion in here. ;)

I've got mixed feeling about this re-boot. Above all it's great that a re-boot will flock new players to the game and a new generation will have the chance to be fascinated by it. The game has got cult status among the old vets of the late 80ies and early 90ies, but let's be realistic, the game was dying slowly and about to fade away. There are exceptions of course, f.e. I passed it on to my son, so did others, too, but a real re-boot and eventually availability at stores and online-market places like amazon will really ressurect HQ. It's also great that they updated some of the old quests and did minor changes, while they preserved the old monochrome card art.
Now the bad: I'm really outraged that Europeans don't get the option to crowd-fund and pre-order. Seriously, what's wrong with the people at Hasbro? We're living in a pretty much connected globalised world and the original game wouldn't have been possible without Games Workshop, being located in Nottingham, England. It's so silly (no, honestly it's absolutely retarded!!) to exclude maybe 50 % of the overall old player fanbase, which is European, from the re-boot funding and pre-orders. I'm really pissed about this, since it also means, that one will miss out the pre-order goodies like the female hero sets for example. Furthermore they don't cooperate with GW anymore, so Chaos is called Dread now and the Warhammer lore will be gone, which is unfortunate, but not a total dealbreaker. As far as I know they also didn't change the rules, which is bad (I know others might be quite happy about this), since in my opinion HQ really could have used updated/modernised and a little bit more complex official rules as well as new cards, equipment and other stuff. After all most of us have house rules and various additional stuff like extra cards and so on, because the original rules just weren't satisfying in the long run.
Like this, only the minis, board and furniture seem to be new, which is a waste of potential in my eyes, that they pretty much keep everything as it was. Additionally female hero sets are hidden behind the pre-order version, which is a real stupid move. I also don't like the WoW style silly donkey ears for elves and those exaggerated big Manga/Final Fantasy style weapons of the new minis. So the new minis aren't that much interesting to me, since I like the old ones and additional ones from various sources, which fit to the old ones, way better. Concerning the cover art I'm also a traditionalist, the good old Les Edwards art was way better and far more impressive than this new comic style - but again, this isn't a dealbreaker. At least they seem to keep the monochrome coloured card art, which is nice. Overall I'm excited about this re-boot but also angered about the exclusion of so many of the old fanbase being European.
