Sorry to hear that those not that far north of me (Michigan) are getting charged $90 extra in shipping. :-(
I was only charged $30 which seems similar my 2 other board game crowd funding experiences.

With that said I was also pleased with the price. The base game comes with a pile of plastic. (Though they could reduce the cost a bit with some cardboard parts to some of the furniture...) And the expansions feel cheap at only $25 dollars.

If I had to complain about anything it is that they are hiding the gender swapped characters behind pre-ordering. (anyone who claims that this isn't a pre-order obviously is smoking something good and needs to share). At least the Elf is naturally presenting as female.
[But this may be because my daughter is getting to the age where she wants to play games with her dad but doesn't want to play "boys"... and because of this there are multiple games in my collection that she just cannot play because of it.]

Kurgan wrote:Regarding the price, I hate to say it, but they COULD make another adjustment to what I call the "normie" version of HeroQuest. Instead of these super detailed minis, they could just include 2d, cardboard standup minis and sell it at a bargain price (maybe include a coupon for the 3d minis in each box for those who want to send away for some or all of them). Since these days they cost more, they could do that and drive down the price for the "casual" player. Yeah, the 3d minis are a big part of the experience, but having a $100-150 price tag IS going to stop a lot of people from buying Hero Quest that might otherwise be willing to try it and become a life-long fan...

It's like:
Oh, you want to buy Monopoly? Well too bad, your only option is the Deluxe Set with solid wood, velvet lined board, 24K gold tokens and crystal dice. No cheaper version for casual players curious to try something new... !

Let's never have this again

But honestly, casual players won't buy HeroQuest in the first place. They buy Monopoly, Catan, Ticket to Ride and Pandemic.
I'll also question whether a significant amount of people is actually scared off by the price tag. People are willing to spend a lot of money on games these days. Just sayin'
And the mommys and daddys buying a game for little Timmy won't pay much more than ~$40 tops for a game, and that's just not a realistic price drop, even without minis (which would be the main attraction for little Timmy in the first place).

But let's be honest her... That $1,157,471 Pledged is not people JUST discovering HeroQuest for the first time.
Hasbro knows what they are doing. I'm not calling "cash grab", but this is a product made for a specific audience.
Everything is full plastic, because skimping on quality components is what I believe would cause people to be scared off. Having cardboard doors would have been unacceptable.

I agree that if the doors were cardboard, that would have been horrible.
But some build your own furniture with some cardboard color... I am all for that. As is the furniture will not pop, and the overall experience will be lessened for it. (same if all the minis end up being the same color plastic.)

Agreed, though same colored plastic is a lesser offense. You were always supposed to paint the minis after all.

I've seen my paint jobs.
Multi colored plastic is the best I'm getting. :-)

I like the way this guy paints them. He makes it look so easy. I'm not much of a painter either, but I feel like I could do it this way.

That is Miguel Garcia Fernandez (in the youtube post.) Great to follow for painting HeroQuest. May be the best in my humble opinion. I'm a subscriber and really enjoy his tutorials. Has taught me a lot for painting. It is absolutely my favorite way to paint. Can't wait until he paints these new figures. He's a big a fan.

$100 USD today was equivalent to $53.98 in 1992 (year of the EQP/BQP), or $47.71 in 1989.

According to that 1992 flier, Either KK or ROTWL was $10.50 including shipping (equivalent to $22.01 today).

EQP/BQP were each $15 (shipping included) in '92, equivalent to $27.79 today.

And $150 in 2020 money was worth $71.56 in '89 or 80.97 in '92. I don't remember how much my parents paid for the game system (it was a gift) or the quest packs, but if that puts it into perspective.

Still, when you can get popular board games for about $20-40, that limits retail sales quite a bit.

I'm going to go out on a limb here on a few topics:

1) I don't think these will all be gray 3D printed mini's. They are 3D renderings of concepts, They will Cast Mold them, and by time they go to mass mold product these they very well use the original color scheme of red, gray, white and green mini's.
2) The Gender Swap Hero's will most likely be available upgrade packs when they full launch. It says in the "Kickstarter" that they are "Pulse Bonus" but only Sir Ragnar, the incorrectly marked Mentor fig and the Witch Lord say they are a Limited Time Exclusive.
3) The Prophecy of Telor is the 2m tier bonus but will also be an expansion/upgrade for the mass produced game.
4) Likewise The Spirit of Queen's Torment may be an additional stretch goal but will also be an expansion/upgrade for the mass produced game.
5) The Original 14 quests will be adjusted/tweaked so they are not exact duplicates of the original.

Other than that, I'm hoping that they don't have regional expansion packs if this turns into a big game. Make an expansion and worldwide release it to all markets.
