Ah I see. I could do my own picks but I have a busy weekend ahead so not sure when I'd have the time to do comparison shots with pieces on the "wrong" boards. If I return and nobody has done it, could throw some up maybe tuesday or something. If somebody beats me to it, great. :redheart:

Am I alone in preferring “Dread” to “Chaos”?

I also prefer Abominations to Fimir, and I got HQ for my 12th Christmas in 1989, had both Witch Lord and Kellar’s Keep, as well as Barbarian and Elf Quest Packs as soon as they released. Bought them all again in my 20s, as well as EU’s Ogre Horde and Wizards of Morcar, which I hadn’t known as a child. So it’s not like I’m “not a true fan” or something. I just genuinely think Dread is more evil than Chaos, which is not evil at all. And I love the Abominations.

Shadzar pointed out this video showing the Companion App in action...

And Return of the Witch Lord listing on Amazon ("temporarily out of stock" aka, not yet available to order): here

Many people are still waiting on their orders as this thread on BGG indicates...

You aren't alone! I quite like the Dread choice myself, and the abominations are a great replacement to the Fimir. I've been playing HeroQuest since I was a kid, and I honestly can't say I miss Chaos or the Fimir at all. I never got into Warhammer at all, so that might have something to do with it, but I'm really glad HeroQuest is being allowed to stand on it's own. I know one of my worries with the relaunch was that it would get mashed into a D&D setting, but they've let it be it's own thing and I'm quite happy with that.

I mentioned before how my brother has a vintage board from the UK (because it was the cheapest that was complete at the time he got it off eBay), so we've been testing these things on that, and that's how I'm coming to these conclusions.

I did post a little bit in my video here (showing classic Fimir on the remake board). :fimir:

There's a blank quest map at the end of the Game System quest book shared on the Hasbro Customer Care website (print in grayscale for best results).

If you have the physical quest books, KK & ROTWL also have a blank map at the end.

Honestly? I don't prefer it, but I don't have any personal problems with the change myself. I also don't have an issue with the Abominations. Yeah, it does kinda stink to lose the Warhammer elements, but I honestly think this game has been out of print decades too long as it is, so if this is what it takes to get it in the hands of people again, then I am okay with that.

But yeah, I don't have a real preference either way, though my own personal notes may say to use a Chaos Warrior, Chaos Sorcerer or Fimir if using a vintage board.

Nailed it, for me too. If we could have gotten it, it would have been my vote to keep the old trappings, but better this than nothing. Not sure how many UK players are feeling the same way (those who would rather use the EU rules).

I'm going to use the old names for stuff pretty much all the time out of habit and nostalgia if for no other reason (except the abomination).

I never noticed until now that there was this HeroQuest Fan Wiki with some info on differences between the EU and NA editions. Might be useful (or if you can spot some issues). I didn't realize that the NA edition nearly always added extra monsters to the base quests (Bastian of Chaos removed 1).

Assume this is okay via the rules (the original text even says its okay to photocopy it for personal use).

Thanks for this. Very print-friendly.

I’m still hoping the app eventually introduces a drag-and-drop way to build Quests with the icons in color and easily print them. Even better if they can also then be run by Digital Zargon, too.
