The Bard is totally a pirate! Erase the Mandolin and see all the piratey goodness... anchor tattoo, medal, rapier (or is that meant to be a foil or epee? he should have a cutlass but close enough), tentacle (suggesting giant squid), treasure chest.

Sure, pirates keep guys around who can play music, so that's no stretch.

My first box came bent corner on the game box with a 3 inch crease on box lid in a pristine shipping container, so likely dropped at the packing facility in China. My second which I wasn't going to open right away (but decided to due to quality concerns) had a cracked tray around the rats but no other issues.

On the good news front one of my other friends got his no problems, while the other has been playing run-around with FedEx, he got a notice on the door even though he works from home and is always home, no one knocked or rang, has cameras etc. then a second notice, then he requested hold at facility for pick up (since the delivery driver not doing their job) then told was delayed reaching holding facility for pick up. arrrgh. No one has done a signature to receive theirs that I am aware of.

with the general change from Emperor to king and Empire to realm, that changes the identity of the king...
in the original HeroQuest it was long surmised that Prince Magnus is also Magnus the Pious Emperor, elected in 2304 in the Warhammer world. Because in the HeroQuest/Warhammer Old World Empire, emperors retained their various titles while they held the throne.
Prince Magnus from HeroQuest and Warhammer would be the Prince of Nuln, the same individual known as Magnus the Pious, a noble of Nuln, who repelled the largest Chaos invasion known as the Great War against Chaos in 2302-2303 and became Emperor in 2304 as the people demanded it. During his reign he spent much effort to eradicate remaining Chaos warbands throughout his lands, "the servants of Chaos were hunted down in the forests, and many wild and long-abandoned lands were re-settled." This after a lawless period known as the time of three emperors in 1979 where many claimants to the throne disrupted the succession of emperors for the next 400 years allowing Chaos to corrupt mens' hearts and infest the land. HeroQuest is set in the period right after Magnus of Nuln was elected emperor and then spent his remaining reign trying to eradicate remaining Chaos pockets in his realm.
You can see a more in-depth discussion of HeroQuest, it's characters and place in the Old World here Overview of the Old World

The retcon change would de facto make the king and prince separate individuals.
That would be the first notable retcon after the Games Workshop content was removed and HeroQuest was made a generic fantasy land, besides the new out of character for the HeroQuest world changes such as "halfling warlocks", good guy orcs and "orc bard" changes that we have long known about and derided. This change would be significant however in altering the history and backstory of HeroQuest, which is why I maintained from the start that the new quest material from Hasbro/Avalon Hill should be in it's own room here at the INN to keep them separate from Original HeroQuest from Milton Bradley/ Games Workshop so the content discussion isn't muddied or confused. Of course all veteran players will ignore the retcons anyway and add the new material into their own existing campaigns whether they are homebrew, stand alone, or conform to the GW Old World setting as they see fit regardless.

I've not had any real issues with my board so far, though we still photocopied some character sheets and such; I appreciate that Hasbro included a set, but I just don't feel comfortable using them (this is also true of the vintage boards). We also printed out character sheets that were made for older editions, including the one from the Adventure Design Kit, since that one just seems bigger. I expect that one may be more popular with any group I play with, but regardless, we got options!

My brother is more experienced than I am, but we're both happy. Still, there were struggles with how the figures are stored; I think I might wanna get something that stores them better than what we currently have. That's the part of the packaging I don't like. Otherwise, though? I expect I'll be making many memories with this game, hopefully for years to come.

But I can tell I'm gonna have fun with this.

Ah, answers the question from the other thread … Hasbro 2021 edition then, cool. You're gonna love it when you see just how much stuff there is, and most of it is open to modification/expansion. We don't really have things like the custom cards converted to the new format yet, and you'll need to scale up tiles and whatnot yourself for the moment … but there's worlds beyond what Hasbro just published … It's definitely going to be fun!

I got mine yesterday, but I didn't get home until after 10pm from traveling. I've only taken them out of the Cardboard boxes but I have not broken the seal on the game boxes yet. Question, I'm in the US and the main box and the two expansion boxes say Australia Consumer Service and New Zealand consumer service on one of the sides. Does not say US anywhere on the box. I wonder if I got the wrong boxes?? As long as the content and questbook are the same it shouldn't matter, I was just curious.

I'm U.S. and mine did too. I think that is standard box, the U.S./Canada numbers are on the back of the Quest book

I was tempted to go through and modify the "HeroQuest Map" to refer to the "Elder World" (is that already taken?) and "Brytannia" "Kysluv" and so on. Maybe distort the land masses a little...

Maybe that's going too far, to the point of parody, so I tabled the idea... I long for the day when a new alliance of GamesWorkShop and Hasbro appears, and where creativity and fan-service triumph over greed and tight fisted control. But that is probably just a dream for now. Imagination will have to paper over the issues.

Quake uses "Elder World" as a Medieval level theme subtype, but I don't think that counts.

Maybe I'm too much of a grognard, but the new expansions left me underwhelmed. Other than the grand stairwell in Prophesy of Telor, there wasn't much outside the box thinking that hasn't been done before, or even better, here at the Inn.

I'm happy for those who always wanted a set, but after having spent a lifetime expanding both my original set and my hobbying/role-playing muscles, there's not a lot here for us veterans.
