 I thought the new Japanese version was presented by Hasbro, today! Look at the elf ears and weapon sizes...

If it was, there would be groping tentacle monsters and face-tracking white slime. :p

There’s nothing to interest me here really, except one thing, and that’s a real biggy; a brand new official HQ quest book from Steve Baker himself :D :D :D

The new miniatures and art are unfortunately incompatible with what most of us already own, the style does nothing for me. I’d pass on all of it even if I lived in the US, but the new quest pack alone is massive cause for celebration. This shouldn’t be overlooked because even us fans living outside the US will be able to get hold of it, by hook or by crook.

Gray 3d printed miniatures...

Where is the... magic of dark-red-plastic heroes and green-plastic goblins??? I prefer the original.

Box cover sucks and so hero cards, and so the dwarf and too many other things.

$463,000 almost a half million dollars so far in a couple hours not a bad opening for limited sales and hasbro pulse Kickstarter.
This is going to happen so best come to terms with it.
I would love to see it in stores though.

Assuming those checks don't bounce, heh, I'm ever the pessimist.

I agree with the person who said that HeroQuest Elves don't have bunny/donkey ears. I'm more in favor of Spock ears myself.

I'm not worried at all! There's going to be no community divide because the games will be 100% compatible if what we've seen so far is any indication. Even the wording on the cards is identical. Blind folded it would be exactly the same as the NA release. A few extra figures to a few people and that's about it. Our mod making need not end. Maybe some people will want to "port" their mods to the "new" style and post galleries for their minis but that's about it. They'll make another fortune on Paint sales!

I don't mind the new 2D artwork, it looks very video-gamey/remakey, but it is at least inspired by the original (sad that "Frankenstein's monster" is gone from the front cover between the two zombies, may he rest in peace, though).

It's the miniatures that are the issue. I prefer something other than the WizKids "realistic" style (which clashes with the goblins that look straight out of a kid's cartoon... or maybe Harry Potter). They look fine otherwise, but even more generic, especially with the loss of the "gamesworkshop" exclusives.

Speaking of that, who knows, maybe GWS could release their own "optional pack" of miniatures for use with this set, of Fimirs and Chaos Warriors/Warlock? I'm sure they'd make some quick cash... and they could include custom cards too!

They need to add some new rewards "Dread Pirate Roberts" and "Judge Dredd" figures. Just sayin'...

They should at least prime them some basic colors. I guess they're assuming/hoping the game will only be purchased by hardcore tabletop hobbyists like us. The average gamer doesn't want to paint his board game, he just wants to open the box and play.

Isn't Zombiecide that way? You can just buy the regular game and play, and then there are the hardcore players who want to customize everything and add special mods spend extra money, etc.

I've check this out. There is not much info on the questpack included - I would assume it is the orignal?

Other than that, it looks like a nice, loyal remake of the original with updated minis. Not sure why they felt
the need to update the minis, except to make them look more like video game characters, which I personally
do not like. They didn't change the board, which is both good and bad. There were some elements of the board
that could've used an update or upgrade, whatever you might want to call it. Personally, I think making it a
modular set of the rooms and hallways would've been a good way to go, but that is just me.

Two things that really turn me off and will keep me from getting in on this:
1 - A major company running a crowdfunder is just ridiculous. I get that maybe, perhaps, they are trying to
judge actual interest before going into production, but there are better ways of doing this. Both Avalon Hill and
Hasbro are major companies with large followings - and Hasbro is a $1B+ company, there is no reason why they
should be involved in a crowdfunder. Even if it was a complete flop, they would not be losing enough money
to be worried about it.

2 - The price point is simply insane. I get that board games are just expensive in today's terms - something which
I don't understand to begin with. But the fact that they didn't have to put any effort into game design or writing
a new quest pack (again, assuming it is the original game), and with the fact that these minis look to be 3D
printed, which is so much less costly that it is used to be for making plastic minis, there is no reason for this
game to be $100+. If they were simply seeking interest for production, they could've put the base price point
at cost of materials and shipping, a ton more people could've been involved in funding, and they would've gotten
a much better idea of how many people really are interested in seeing a remake.

Oh well, I wish them luck. Perhaps it will bring more fans into the base. And maybe we'll get lucky and they will
eventually put out some new material that can be used seemlessly with the original game, for those of us who
own that.

I must correct myself: furniture are 3d printed, nowhere the site says that miniatures are 3d printed too.

Edit: Now I would write to WargamesFoundry (the old Citadel) for a new Board Game with their Citadel miniatures and grim art.

3d printed? I play with my stuff too much to want to mess with 3d printing, afraid I'll break em!
Plastic casts are much preferred.

Wow, high praise! I believe what you are looking for is what Stephen Baker will deliver.

What I really need to see are are expansions that follow the creativity rules of the original Game System (as opposed to the official expansions). I think it was GoblinKing who clued me into the very important idea that EVERY quest should introduce something new and ideally modify the rules in some way. This is a must have for me in any new content. Honestly, my group never finished KK because it was too boring. And thus I never bough ROTWL.

It is also my opinion that the adventures are exciting because the heroes are not overpowered. I try to make it a struggle to keep the top end equipment and generate excitement with a diverse collection of lesser effects which don't actually do too much for them. At this point I find the wizard to be the most exciting character to play. In fact I really should add an artifact "Forager's Pouch" which implements my new way of playing the wizard. "At the beginning of each quest the wizard may discard all expendable / spell component type artifacts and then randomly draw two such cards. Cards obtained in this way cannot be given to other heroes."
Has resigned from the forum and would delete his account if he could.
